Movies Help
I'm having trouble with some of my movies. I've recently chosen to re-enable them and I've found that the movies for when you eradicate a faction aren't working. It changes resolution ( i can hear my monitor do it ) and it goes into a black screen, but a few seconds after it just returns to AC.
Is something wrong?

I was thinking about giving that same answer when I read the post, but I could resist the tempation. Shouldn't we be nice and try to help him?

Did you copy all the files off the CD to your hard drive? Perhaps a re-install might be in order...

I already typed it and erased it to be a bit more polite. Another suggestion might be an incompatibility with DirectX. Did you update/downgrade it betweeen deactivating and activating the movies?

Thank you for your very interesting and quite provacative comments.
I had the latest version of DirectX before and after I enabled Secret Project Movies.

I think our reputation of being friendly to newbies could be ruined now.

Oops. Sorry to sully our reputation. But it is kind of hard troubleshooting this one since I suspect it is some sort of configuration issue.
I also remember a recent poster who had a problem after changing his screen resolution. Perhaps something similar here.

No, my monitor changes screen resolutions just fine. I doubt that screen resolution is the issue.

If you have the latest directx(8.1) which should come with Win XP, but mine didn't so I had to download and install it. Then if you're using screen resolution(1024 x 768) you will need to set color quality at medium(16 bit) and that should take care of the problem...or atleast it did for me. I didn't need to change the alpha.ini file at all so you might try this first and see if it works for you aswell.

BTW the reason is some video cards don't support hardware acceleration in higher color depths, so changing your color depth to 16 bit color should do it.
Also if your hardware accelerator is a secondary display device, it cannot be used. Your hardware accelerator must be your primary display device, so you might check this if the first suggestion doesn't do the job.
