Random Musings
First, I just thought up a name for the mountains southwest of France: Mountains of Valhalla .
Also, I think that we should name the ships we build, and keep track of which is which, etc.
Last, I was wondering, are we going to put a Military Commander in charge of the attack force in Case Pink? He would of course be under the Military Advisor.

we can hardly think of names for the regions we already have [pathetic] we have come up with 100+/- variations of the word 'apolyton' [pathetic] i dont think we can name every ship, although it would be cool

I dont think we need someone in charge of the attack force. The armies we build should be under direct control of the military advisor. The last thing this game needs is more government positions.

Well, I might be of some help in naming geographical positions, I am rather good at that, and I may well try my hand at naming vessels as well, if that's alright.

How many ships are we going to have? I wouldn't think it would be so many we couldn't come with names for them. We could use the naming conventions that have been used by some countries if need by.

Each ship - ouch.
If uber wants an assistant sargent or two, that is up to him. However, they wouldn't have any real position and they would be serving at his mercy. I doubt that until we are marching with our 20 bombers, 50 tanks and 100 infantry that we will need that type of coordination/assistance. But again, that should be 100% up to uber (or successors).

Sirs, this seems to bring up, at least in my mind anyway, a whole new government problem in itself. If we are to have a navy, how is it to be run? Would it not then be prudent to put in office a Secretary of the Navy once Map Making is found? It would seem to me to be the best way to control the navy. We'd need a chap who knows how to use the navy, and knows naval tactics, obviously. Would this not be so?

I doubt we will have lots of ships until late in the game. Do you usually build twenty Galleons for colonization purporses? I doubt. Of course, later in the game, when we might start building lots of ships, we should name them anymore, perhaps we could name fleets of ships instead, and only some strategic units, such as carriers (like Kingof the Apes said).
For instance, why not name a carrier: Maurice Greene, when it's missions is to send airplanes to attack a green-colored civ.

we have the time between turns , we are not doing 100 a day or so , so we have the time .
it can be done , just mark the squares on a piece of paper , or move the positions on a map ; example , someone makes a map , on that map are little dots , red for ships or so , with a small number , the number the name of the ship , ....
simple , ...
allas , is it clear now , ...

Naming ships would be a laugh if nothing else, a bit of roleplay when things are going slowly. Why not name them after the citizens, in the order they joined?

Don't laugh, but I actually name the ships in my games. I have Notepad open and I have the name of each ship, the class of ship, and it's status (NEAR WASHINGTON, for example) listed. It also says what ships it killed (though I don't name other civs' ships) and when, as well as when and how it died (if it did). Hey! I said don't laugh!
I propose we name the first Battleship U.S.S. Apolyton, then name a carrier that if/when the Battleship is disbanded.
I want a carrier named D.A.S. Skywalker. Sounds better than JDD2007 .

Naming ships would be a good idea, perhaps we should name them for people. Also the city names would work too. Names could be like monuments, for example if we win a war based on somebodies ideas we can name a ship after him, for example "the trip" or maybe "the sir ralph". Perhaps our first galley could be named for the minister of expansion "the jonny", though i'm afraid people might refer to it as "the john"
