Completely New Graphics Mod: More Detail
I love to see people in pain so I thought I'd let ppl know what I am up to and post a screenshot of a mod that I am working on for Civ3 again, this one is much more detailed than the last.
Some of the terrain in this picture is not edited yet, just so that you know.
And if you take a close look at some of the terrain, you'll notice there is a lot of texture in there, so I have really helped to reduce the repetitivness (sp?) in the terrain.
I am going back over everything else, except the cities (or I may just touch some bits up), but I am redoing the goodie huts, mines and resources, I will also change the new terrain to suit this mod when Play the World comes out.
I've completely finished the file xdpc, and there are a lot more to do, just to give you an idea when I will finish, it took me 4-5 days (not in total but spread out) to finish xdpc.
Hope you like it so far; I certainly like it and can't wait to finish so I can play on it.

/me drools with anticipation.
I'm using the current version of your terrain mod at the moment Sn00py, it is far and away better than the 'standard' Civ3 graphics.
Can't wait to see where you take this one, it looks impressive so far.

Snoopy -
Love your graphics of course. Would love to see a greener palette in vegetation, and tree sets that fit the map - too many tree sets cover coastline and hang off into the middle of nowhere...

good work snoopy, you truly are the graphics god!!!
Do you reckon there's any way to make the water look "transparent" or some such, instead of looking like the giant inanimate blue carpet that it is now (no offense to your changes to the water, best you could do given the way Firaxis decided to implement it)

Looks good.
My sugestion for the coast: mix in some sand color at the edge fading to a daker color and have a little foam for the line, also I would like less square corners on all types and a little more fade between the water types, For more "transparent" watter look at CTP1s.

yeah I know about CTP's, I attempted it a while ago but failed.
But I tried again just now and it doesn't look too bad. What do you think?
(I added the small island out in the deep ocean and also the whale's tail looked weird so I added another whle that has half its body under water (which you can see)).
(See pic further down)

Oh and about the beaches, I want to do what you said to the grassland beaches, not the sand and plains beaches.
I am working on the grassland/plains file now, such a time consuming job

Sn00py, all your work is for naught because you bunch up the trees for the forest too much! I demand you change it now!

Wow, cool Sn00py, I like your continental shelf idea. Any chance you could do it with the default colours as well? I personally like what they've used for water.

The "continental shelf" look will work exceptionally well with the possibility of building cities on coastal tiles, something they've mentioned will be available with the PTW package.

I actually made a mod similar to the continental shelf modification a while ago (of course, Snoopy's is better), so I've decided to post it so you can enjoy it until Snoopy's comes out. I'll surely replace mine with his :-)

Actually, that's the next patch. In the super-cool editor, you will have the option to pick what type of terrain you can build cities on... even water.

Hey Sn00py, I love your work and I'm sure your MODs will be included by Firaxis in PTW. Don't forget to e-mail them there in time!
About this particular MOD, I love the diversity of textures, but feel that the so called "shelf" seems too clear, I think it should be a little less visible...
And please don't remove the blue water you've created a while ago! It's the best looking piece of work I've ever seen for Civ. Those blue coasts are... art.
