Multiplay TCP/IP troubles
I am trying to set-up an MP game for the first time. However, I have lost the MP instruction booklet and am having trouble hosting and/or joining a game. Basically whenever someone tries to join my game after typing in the IP address (ie: ##.###.###.###) it just gives the 'Game not Found' message. Same when I try to join a game. Just wondering if because I don't have the instructions I am missing something. Do I need to type 'HTTP:// ' then the IP Address? Or what do put in for the computer name as an alternative - is this the game name?
I do have a D-Link router with a built in firewall - don't know much about that, but I understand AC doesn't require ports to be opened.
I am running Windows 2K with DSL and my friend is on XP (with firewall disabled) and a modem.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You could still be having a firewall problem, but if the other person's firewall is really disabled, you should be able to connect with at least one of you hosting, so possibly something else is wrong. Try this thread: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=48499 toward the middle it gets into your problem area. There are also a number of other threads which deal with this issue as well; try searching with keywords like IP address, ports, tcp/ip, etc. Possibly the FAQ has pointers too.

I just Installed it and the update failed to let the Game install. When I pressed Autoplay it said that it is an invalid Win32 application.
More help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeremy

I attached the version I had; you'll need to rename the file to change the suffix to .exe from .net as Poly doesn't let you attatch an .exe file, forcing me to rename it to upload it.
I think this is the latest version, but it is also available from microsoft (and may even be on Poly in the files area or in some other download sites); it is on microsoft's download/upgrade site, although it is hard to describe how to get there. Try this:
Go here - http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp and let it initialize; then expand "pick updates to install"; then select the "Windows 2000" sub item; the "Windows 2000 compatibility updates" should appear as one of the possible updates, although this process supposedly depends on what you may or may not have done already. It used to be that you could also see what you had already loaded, but they seem to have changed it somewhat and I couldn't figure out where that feature went.

Sadly it did'nt work. For some reason it just won't work. Did it work for you. Did you have an error message that said Invalid Win32 application when you had no compatibility update?

I'm going to reformat my hardrive and put a dual partition of Windows 98 and 2000. I'll see if that'll work. Too bad I don't like Win.98 for its nonusability. I heard about Firaxis promising a Patch for the Win.2000- Smac conflict. Do you know when it will com out?
