All smileys are not equal?
I notice that if you type, (something:confused</b>:</b>) then it comes out (something ). Clearly the smiley has been reduced to the status of a second-class smiley , and I for one believe that all smileys were created equal. Yes, I'm bored.

Exactly, you're bored, but when I was asking Stefu to make a please smiley, I typed:
Stefu, can we heave a smiley?
And yeah, got in the way.

Yeah, it's somewhat annoying but it can easily be avoided with strategicaly placed '<b></b>'s so it's not a big deal...

Why bother? Takes more time to type it, then, and no great idea behind it .

How do you think I managed to type (something:confused</b>:</b>) without any smileys appearing? I'm just noting that the smiley takes precedence over the smiley

For smileys, there's even a simpler solution: just place a space between the smiley and the bracket, and it will work ( )

Yes, but then it looks different, doesn't it? That forces us to sacrifice aesthetic values.

There are specialized smilies sites, www.smilies.nl is one of them for example.
Just type "smilies" in Google and you'll find a good deal of smilies sites.
And sometimes you do stumble onto something cool at another bulletin board

Why bother? Just insert a space in the appropiate space.
Geeks work smarter, not harder.
P.S. You missed a semicolon in your code.

The problem is that inserting a space looks different, ergo the results are different.

It has nothing to do with the smilies involved and everything to do with the fact that the smilie code parses from right to left.
