Adjust the science rate
At the request of the president... The issue has again arisen whether or not to keep the science rate as is or completely abolish it in favor of gold for rush building. The end of the game is aproaching and many feel that no useful technologies can be discovered before the end. The science rate is currently at: 70% discoveries every 4 turns with 206 income and 47 cost of maintanance.
science 60% tax40%4 turns 270 gold
science50% tax50%5 turns 351 gold
science40% tax60%6 turns 409 gold
science30% tax70%8 turns 479 gold
science20% tax 80% 10 turns 536 gold
science10% lux 10% tax 80% 17 turns 540 gold
science0% lux20% tax80% 42 turns 536 gold

there's been discussion going on in this thread about it. http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=54553

I suggest that we at least reduce the science rate down to 60% because we would still be making discoveries every four turns and still getting more gold

so please vote on whether or not to make my posistion in the government useless

The city planner should take note, that if science is significantly reduced or zeroed, all science improvements should also be sold for a quick shot of gold into the nation's account. While we have no universities, we have many libraries which would give us $80 each if sold.

There is a max of five days to vote however I imagine the President will wish to know sooner than that. Vote early and vote as often as you can!

I think we should drop the science rate down to 20%. We'd still get a tech or two at a cost of only 4 gold per turn. And if we convert our Scientists in the cities to productive workers, we can increase trade, shields, and food even more.
And the gold goes up to 561 per turn.

Vote for 20%!

We should lower it; it will all be over soon enough...

20% sounds like a good rate.

yayks...And I felt evil when going for 30% ...

Just don't put it at zero, that would be a mistake.
(btw are we still going to do some trade next session(s)?? they can also give our science some boost)

We need to get technology at the same rate, but we need more gold so I vote and advise us to go to lower the rate to 60%!

Well spoken, 123john. Ambition!!!

We are at the point where we will soon have eliminated the last civ with even Gunpowder, and science will be for very little, especially since we need a few techs for new units/improvements of any consequence.

However, we may need a fair few turns to take down the large Carthaginians (Blitzkrieg unfortunately not possible without the faraway Armor ), so maybe there will be time to get a few new techs. But once again, I doubt they will help us.

Even if next techs are of limited interest, I'm reluctant to stop science progress in a civ2 game.
Ok for 60 %.

That setting gives us the biggest return. Tech is less important, but we might be able to squeeze another wonder out before it's all over.

It seems the people are divided on this question.
7 votes for 50% or higher and 8 votes for 30% or lower.

everyone may continue to vote in the poll, but i've already sent in my reccomendation to the premier, so your vote really doesn't count anymore, thanks to the 17 others who helped shape our science research in such a major way for the rest of the game.

we have all the weapons we're ever going to need! i say squash the opponents capitals and bribe their remaining citizens! or we could just let them do the research while our wealth grows and simply steal technologies from them!

It will take too long or we would have to give them all our technologies.
