A little idea for a non-'combat' unit
I've had this idea floating in my head for a little bit, so I thought I'd write it down.
My idea is for a non-combat unit called the "Sports team". It'd create 1 happy face if it 'fortifies' a town, & the abillity to go into a freindly civs land (like an explorer), compete against their "Sports teams", & the winner would get either culture or gold. This would create the ability for a civ to host an 'olympic games' type event, therefore bring fame or fortune to the winners. This would also let a possible Canadian civilization ( ) have a hockey team as a UU, creating 2 happy faces instead of one.
Just an idea.

Nice idea for Civ 4, but no way to implement it here.

It's kind of funny really. The more people try to improve Civ3 the more it begins to look like CTP2.
Nice idea about noncombat units but where have I seen it before? Hmm....

I'm pretty sure Sports Teams aren't in any Civ games.
As for CTP2, deep down in below the layer of crap there're some good concepts.

Sports team could be interesting to those guys who like CTP Lawyers, Slavers, Infectors, Cyber Ninjas or Corporate Branchs.
Although I liked both CTP1 & CTP2, I realy didn't liked that concept at all.

I think someone was watching a little too much World Cup Football/Soccer
But nice idea anyway. Neat to see in a mod. Would the two sports teams "fight" eachother, and the winner win the tournament, though both teams would still be there?

Firstly, I'm not a soccer person, I got the idea while thinking about a possible Canadian UU, the Hockey Player, it kinda evolved out of that. It doesn't neccisarily have to be any sport, just a general Sports Team, you can imagine that they're playing Quiddich if you'd like.
Anyways, yes, the two teams would 'fight' each other & use HP much like regular units, but once one wins, the winner gets the gold or culture, may become higher 'rank', & is sent back to his home civ, while the loser doesn't get any gold or culture, may go down a level, gains back it's HP, & is sent back to it's home civ.

Sports teams no, but non-combat units yes, aplenty.
I like the idea of athletic competitions. But, this would be hard to do in the current Civ3. I could see a great wonder: the Olympics. The builder would get cp. Once built the Olympic Games could be held every 20 turns or so. A winner would be decided with a die roll favouring civs with many coloseums and universities. The winner would get cp and/or gold.

Perhaps they could be used as a weapon: Go to another civ do "battle" with one of their teams in one of their cities and if you win the match the city goes into disorder for a turn or two

I like the stadium idea. It could be a small wonder and once you have it, there's regular olympic games with other countries, that have it. Winning could bring you culture, happyness or money, loosing the opposite. How the winner gets determined, I don't know. Ideas anybody?
