Missing out in the excitement
Well , if you check the ctpII section out, everyone is raving and raving and foaming at the mouth about the possibilities of the game. I am kinda sad. It's going to be a year at least before i get into a frenzy over a civ game and thats provided they even release civ 3 next year. I want to be around Apolyton when the real bomb is dropped and these forums go insane with the release of civ 3. Instead i know cruise the ctp2 forums and try to live the excitement vicariously through the others

Hmm ... I take it you have an Apple Macintosh computer? That's what I have, anyway, and most of the time it takes developers a bit more time to port games over. Oh well. That just means the PC bugs are discovered and worked out before ruining the Macintosh version of the game .

CyberAmazon, no i have a pc, i just don't share in the excitement of ctp2. I played a friends ctp and i didn't really get into it. So although i am happy for everyone who is playing ctp2 and loving it, i can't really share in the glory.

Now when civ3 comes out, i hope to post and play at the same time. Too bad ctp2 doesn't allow you to use icq at the same time the game is running, sorry allow you to see it, it is actually running you just can't access it. See there is the first flaw already , i knew not to buy this game

Yeah, I don't like how CTP takes over the desktop when it's launched. I have that game on my hard drive, but have played it maybe 24 times since getting it. Another annoying thing is having to have the stupid CD in the drive in order to play. Heck, my HD is big enough I could've copied most of the program to the HD w/o any problems.

Civ II remains my golden game (despite p*ssing me off sometimes). One game is never exactly like another game and you can access multiple programs while running it. One doesn't need the CD in the drive, either, for it to run properly.

CyberAmazon, i could not have articulated how i feel about ctp any better. I wonder why companies do that. Admittedly there are times when civ 2 pisses me off as well, especially if i ics. The only real challenge in civ is to play perfectionist on a large map for me otherwise its waaaaay to easy. Besides perfectionist adds many more dimensions. However for fun quick games, bloodlust is fun too. Its nice to have powerfull neighbors that actually might scare you if they could wage war properly

If you are talking about the need for the CD to play, it addresses the issue of piracy. But one could always burn an extra CD.

We do they do that?

I read the posts there. I am not sure if CIV2 players and CIV3 hopefulls are missing out. CIV2 is still a great game that stands the test of time.

In almost every game I play, there ends up being one or two AI nations which actually pose a credible threat to me ... probably because I don't actively wipe the AI out unless it sprouts near me at the beginning (or wages holy war from the start).

Right now, I'm play a Large Earth Map and the Russian Empire controls *all* of Eurasia. They've wiped out the French, Japanese, Sioux and Persians. The SOBs have even sent convoys loaded with ground divisions and escorts across the Atlantic to attack my Aztec cities in South America and Cuba (none, BTW, survived to report back to Mother Russia). Right now, I've parked about 64 divisions off the coast of what once was France ... getting ready to surprise attack Russia after having to pay them 2000 in gold to keep the peace long enough for my convoys to get across the Atlantic w/o being struck by cruise missiles, battleships and bombers. The English (in Australia) and myself are the only ones left ... and the former is ineffectual, to say the least.

BTW, this is all taking place at "King" level.

**shrug** I only know what the Apple Macintosh lets me do. There might've been a way to hide the program while using others ... but, heck, I've forgotten because I haven't play CTP that much. Civ II rules !
