Kass: Do you know where I can find out about the nominations? I just nominated myself for Director of Peacekeeping Operations and posted my campaign speech, however I'm now unsure of whether my nomination will be accepted.
|
I'm pretty sure that now that you've aired your wish to run for the positions. There are no official channels to decide in a borderline situation yet, so I'm not sure what you should do. If Tassadar5000 puts you on the Nominations list (when he gets online), you should be ok. I see no logical reason for you not to run, though. It'd be pretty nitpicky to just ignore you if you were a bit late (were you, btw?).

Oh. I just assumed so since the debates started to open up. (shrug)
(hints at sig) I got a bit carried away there.

Yang has contacted the University delegates on planet Drone Mound. Sheng-ji also knows about Menelaus' plea to Kristy Adams and Marcus Kessel....Yang plans on sending a "warning".
For the Earth Coalition, GHE forces will try to update their information as soon as Drone/Spartan and UCS messages are sent.

Ah, now this is getting to the fun part. I can't wait to read this!

Now, are we making Deirdre the perfect idealistic pacifist that she was in Dragon Sun, or the way she is in the game? 'Cause if it's the former, I doubt she'd have the will to stop the GHE anyway.
P. S. What does the "N" stand for in (N)CPA?

When I came back, I've seen new posts in like 10 threads, and The Wizard of Chiron is back. Wizard was the first fan fic I read here on the forums. I was thinking it'd never end or end up in limbo. Here's hoping to it having a definite "~fin" like Joe!
Franky, expect a PM tonight.

Thanks for the replies!
Mr. Prez-glad you think that way. I didn't wanna hang around my other friends if their gonna do drugs and s***, not my bag.
As for Dee and the rest, since it looks like you are the Gaian author, it's up to you to figure out the Gaians stance on everything. The message to Adams and Kessel will be sent after Yang concludes the diplomatic talks on Drone Mound.
The (N) in my locale stands for Neo. The regular CPA members tend to lean toward abrupt, violent change. I advocate for gradual, peaceful change. My ideals are more accepting of other's while regular the regular CPA seems more radical and less tolerant of others. (Sorry for my ramblings! )
Sovereign-Got your PM, thanks! I'll try and construct a reply ASAP. Looks good so far.
1 more thing for whoever can help-
I forget how to put a link to BAC in my sig. How do I do it again? Sorry for my forgetfulness.

I'd rather try and make Deirdre a human, rather than a caricature, if you see what I mean. It's too easy to cast her as the idealist or as the eco-terrorist. In reality, all leaders have to face tough decisions, and can't always rely completely on ideology. Sometimes they make mistakes, and sometimes they get it right.
As for the (N)CPA, I don't necessarily agree with everything you believe, but I like what you said about gradual or non-violent change and procedures. My main problem with most movements (that includes vegetarians, socialists, the Young Liberal Party out here (which is actually the conservative party)) is that they think they should make everyone believe what they do, right now.
About links, you can type this in:
name of link
but without the spaces around the equals sign.
It takes a little getting used to, and even now I usually just click on the "Reply" or "New Thread" buttons and use the Hyperlink feature when I want to make a new link.

Let's see . . . The Morgan-Terra peace conference is about to begin on Firaxis. Other things are progressing apace. The United Nations Peacekeepers have made an appearance, courtesy of History Guy. The Lakedaemon Civil War is heating up, aided by Menelaus' request for Spartan and Drone assistance and the arrival of a Hiverian battle group. Events are leading up to an encounter between the Hive and the Drones. I think that's about all at the moment.

OMFG. A very mean headache, a sore throat, and still I'm padding my post count here. I'm sorta stuck with everything; I've tried to continue my part for a few times but I always nuke the result. At this rate, any sort of gibberish will do for me.

Beyond Alpha Centauri returns! Well, sort of. It's a peace conference-related post, from Firaxis' point of view - relating to some of the preparations and the issues arising from such an important event.

Argh! Ok, I'l try and resend the PM to you Sovereign. That way, I'll be able to deal twith the Drone's activities.
Mr. President-when are you going to send missions into Hive space? I kinda want to have an "altercation" between them and a Patrol Ship sortie....nothing really big.
Lastly...
I was rereading the newest additions to BAC when I came upon a VERY interesting part I failed to notice before:
Quote:
|
“Colonel Kessel, welcome aboard the Pentagon. We have received communications from Central Command and Fleet Carib along the Hive March. Here is a brief report as to the situation. Major Lera at Central Command has forwarded a message of state and it awaits your attention.”
Kessel briefly scans the report and motions towards the door.
“Very well, prepare the taskforce for redeployment. Leave a small detachment here and proceed to the Cadre’s system”
Koto looked at Kessel with a measured glance.
‘We are to enter the Cadre system, Colonel?”
“Affirmative admiral. Your taskforce will enter the Cadre system per the request of the Cadre government.”
Koto and Kessel entered a lift at the end of a short hall. Koto pushed the button for the command deck.
“What will be our objective while we are there sir, if I may ask.”
With a small smile Kessel looked at the aging admiral.
“Well if these reports are true, you will be preparing for war admiral. Along with nearly everyone else in the Human Sphere.”
The lift stopped abruptly and the two officers walked out into the command center of the ship. Kessel spotted the small office where the comm systems were operated from and turned back to Admiral Koto.
“Have General Thomas and General Green report here in twenty minutes. I want the Marine groups under their command to be primed when they get to the Cadre system. It looks like Marine Group Saxon and Goth will be adding another campaign ribbon to their collection”
Koto acknowledge the command and Kessel turned to walk to the comm center. Koto turned and went to summon the two marine generals. As he walked over to his aides he felt something that had been absent for a long time. Finally there might be war with the Hive. Finally after all the years of waiting, his ships would be able to perform the task that they were built for. A smile appeared on the old admirals face at that thought. He had missed the Terran war but that was ok because everyone knew that the only war worth fighting was the war against the Hive.
|
But wait! It gets even better:
Quote:
|
.
TO: President Kirsty Adams of the Free Drone Republic
From: Colonel Marcus Kessel
President Adams, as you may or may not know there has been trouble in the independent system of Laekdaemon. As it stands now, there are reasons to believe that the Hive has interfered in the affairs that do not concern them. If this is true then it will be for the last time. The Hive has been a cancer on humanity ever since the early days of Chiron. If it is found that they are behind this trouble then it will become the mission of the Spartan Federation to eradicate the Hive from the Human Sphere. I ask that your forces remain vigilant for possible Hive offensives along the frontier or for possible Bree incursions. I am still of the opinion that the Hive has aided and abided the Bree in the past and that it is possible that a joint attack could be made. Either way, if the Hive is responsible then their remaining time as a power are numbered.
|
How in the bleeding world could I have missed this?! Oooooh, this definetly deserves a "Yang response"!
Although I do find it rather appropriate despite its clear anti-Hive stance!

Another story post, another message for Sprayber to answer. And, following on in the style I've been writing in for the past few days, another heliborne assault which blows the enemy out of the way and runs straight into an enemy base.
EDIT: It didn't come out quite as expected. Damn Americans mispelling everything .

Actually, "Yods" are the Talanic deities in Outcast (an adventure game). Close, but no cigar.

Oh my dear goodness. Got infected with CIH. Luckily, I didn't have to format my hard drive, and thus I didn't loose any written effort. Though from now on I shall have backups on discettes. Many backups.

I have some news. Sprayber informs me that he'll be away from the message board until next Thursday. He also says that the Hive is going down and that Yang will become a guest of the Spartan state.
By the way, what's a CIH?

CIH. The Chernobyl (sp) virus. The one that destroys your BIOS chip if existing in 25th of December or 26th of April.
The one that infects every single .exe file on your hard drives, and when removed renders those files corrupt.
The one that nests in the kernel32.dll file and other system files and can't be removed unless the hard drive is formatted.
And it managed to destroy some of my works. Luckily I was a bit wise ahead of me... gonna proceed to download a copy of my novel from my website now.

I actually even managed to keep the data on my second hard drive (three gigs of mp3s and around 100 megs of ebooks), which was fortunate since I have no CD-R-drive to back them up (gotta get or borrow one).
I formatted C:, the drive with Windows, reinstalled Windows and then figured out it was a virus (God bless Lemmy, who suggested it in the 'Poly chat). I managed to get my internet working, downloaded F-Prot for DOS, a trial version of F-Secure antivirus and a tool that disabled the virus.
Then I disinfected the majority of the files, only system files remained. I installed Windows over the old one, i.e. in the same directory, ran the antivirus program which disinfected two last files, left F-Prot to check the drives out while I went to bed for three hours (this was late in the morning, damn school)... and it was gone.
I had to format C: for the third time, though, but that was because of a strange dodgy Explorer.exe error.
It's like cancer, FYI. If one single .exe remains infected, when it's ran, the entire system is again overtaken. Luckily, this is probably the worst kind of virus out there. This was my first (hopefully last) outbreak, and I'm happy to know it can't get any worse then this.
Edit: also the virus apparently wrecked my ability to spell.
