In the medieval age. It comes right at hand to build up science, commerce and maybe a few wonders.

Ditto medieval. Really helps to boost the cities in development. Timed right, you see the AI in the rear view mirror and you never look back.

Medieval - You need it early on to get ahead, but in ancient you're not ready for it yet.

No preference. I always play my games as if I will never have a golden age, but they ALWAYS seem to hit me in the ancient era...
even when im civs like USA (i get out a wonder like the Pyramids).. it gets annoying.

late medieval
that's when we usually have enough cities to make it worthwhile and enough stuff to build to actually make good use of it.
my preference would be use the prod boost to start up a bunch of marketplaces, use those markets to further boost the commerce bonus we get, so we can rush buy or tech buy or trade or whatever... I imagine if we pull off our war plans now successfully, we can have productive enough cities to build markets, courts, and libs in each major city before the GA is over.
(i expect we'll already have temples and barracks)
of course, that's all assuming we're not in danger of losing a war. otherwise, units production.

I agree with many people here, I like the mid to late medieval era for a golden age.

Well it depends but mainly I prefer them in the medieval era, but if I have many cities in ancient era GA is good then also.
I try to get my GA when my empire has grown to the point where corruption starts kicking in so I get my courthouses etc. asap.
Optimal would be as many of you point in the mid to late medieval era.

Midieval. Industrial is good, but the sooner you get the GA, the sooner the benefits of it start to carry you ahead. And there are some great wonders (pun not intended) Like Sun Tzu's and the Sistine Chapel.
