Any news on the upcomin Patch?
Does anybody have any new information on the new patch?
I am about to start a new game and playing in huge maps usually keeps me busy for weeks! I am not sure if I should start one though!

They're already late with the latest patch. Patches were coming every 2 months until now. We should have had one in June, but I guess they're too busy with the expansion pack to support the existing version.
Summer holidays will no doubt delay the patch until at least September.

Markos posted something in the last week of June that led me to believe that he might know something! So maybe he can share it with us .
Anyhow, I do not think that they can delay until September, or would they !

Unless Firaxis does otherwise, I really feel that the patch will come with the PtW XP.

There was just a post by Dan over at Civ Fanatics, the patch is in beta-testing so it will be ready soon. No firm date was given, so it might be out any day now.
It certainly won't take until September, since that's around when PtW is coming out. And they specifically mentioned that they want to release this patch earlier so that people will to be comfortable with the scenario tools it will include before then.

Oh, I wasn't aware the patch was already in "beta". Then again, this doesn't necessarily mean it will be released soon. Besides, I'd rather get a patch that is solidly tested.

I firmly believe the patch will be out in 2 or 3 weeks. Firaxis wants to release user-made scenarios with PtW, so releasing the editor/patch with PtW would mean that someone has to make scenarios over on their end, which I don't see happening (at least, not on the level that user-made scenarios will appear).

Yes, the patch should be out sometime this month. That way it gives us a month and a hoalf to come out with a few senerios, have them tested, and ready for packaging/release with PtW. Any later and I doubt they'd make it in PtW.

Am I the only one who sees the irony in having to beta test a patch?

Since they're doing major changes to the editor - adding units, placing cities and units on the map - I sure hope they're testing it more than they would a simple bug fix.

As we know, they told the patch will be in June. They didn't mention the year, though.

I don't think some people realize how much stuff has to be done to each 'thing' that is created before release, whether it be a game, sequal, or patch.

I've been in the software design industry for virtually my entire professional life, and the slipshod way most computer programming gets done still has the power to simultaneously stun and nauseate me.
But that's probably the professional engineer talking.

in that case i fail to see how you would find such a thing ironic. you're not a simple gamer not knowing that in the real world bugs are being "born" even in the process of correcting other bugs....

If you mean the patch that's coming up, what we know is that a full-fledged editor will be included, which will allow a new depth of play for Civ 3. That's why.

I agree, although it sounds promising, I won't get excited until I see the final product and only then if the patch warrents it.
