Caught a few spare moments after lunch and decided it was high time to scope out the competition, especially given that this particular competition is practically my next door neighbor!
Excellent story! Although this is your first tale offered here, I would be quite surprised if it was your first ever attempt at writing...you've got your style too well established....very comfortable with the flow of the words...that comes shining right through the fabric of the story, and is good to see!
Congrats!

Thanks man! That's really impressive coming from a professional writer such as yourself!
Hope this absurd mix-up with the contest is resolved soon - but regardless, I'm starting a new story, which you may have seen. Hope to get it finished in time for Round 13!

Thanks, Centauri.
This was my tour de force - I thought out the whole thing in my head before I even started. You can tell, especially if you compare it to my new story, which I'm ad libbing.

I tell theGuitarist that I have read all the stories around here, and the next one I see, is written by him, and I have not read it. Hold on for an hours or so, Guitarist, and then I'll tell you how much of a gem this is

This story rocks. I mean seriously. Sibling rivalry, intrigue, murder, personal revelations, bloody revolution, regicide... family entertainment. I'm waiting for the movie.

Yeah, your new story is actually quite cruddy. It would do much better if it was included in Iraq's next 12,000 page fudged weapons declaration.
Ummm , are you really writing a new story now? What is it?
Anyways, thanks for generating this story. It's a real wing-dinger!

Thank you all for the unexpected praise. I can already feel my head expanding.
My new story is "Il Qui Vit, Combat." I'm currently writing the very last part, which may or may not be up soon. BTW, French is to "Il Qui Vit" as Latin was to "Frater Meus." So if you don't like foreign languages, too bad.

Well, I have finally gotten through the story. Interesting stuff. Although unlike the turtle, I didn't find the dialogue in latin annoying Maybe because I don't know latin?
Any way, I do like this story also.
One story with a latin name, the other - with french... Next what?

Thank you again scratch, vovan, easthaven, centauri. I will double my efforts to finish "Il Qui Vit"!
I personally think the best part of this particular story is the hand-to-hand combat. I have a bit of a fencing background, which in my opinion adds that much more realism to the story.

BUMP for any new folks who have not had time to delve deep into the archives
This was a first effort by The Guitarist and tells the story of the rift between two brothers. A great piece of writing with awesome fight scenes
