So who wants to be a Justice?
Just having got back from a few days away, it's taken a while to catch up...
I'm still not completely up to date, but I see we're on our way towards implementing something... even if we're not 100% on exactly what that is.
I notice that a number of people have expressed interest in being a judge/justice.
Simply out of curiosity, who is interested in being a Justice/Judge (at this time)?
Note that we don't have full agreement on all the mechanics of the system but I think we have consensus that the primary function of the Justices will be to determine legality of polls/repolls and Constitutional matters. Judges *may* have the power to dismiss scurrilous impeachment charges before the public votes on it, but likely won't have the power to indict on impeachment charges alone.
---
This is totally unofficial and has no bearing on appointments or elections so no need to explain or campaign. I'm just curious and want to get an idea of how much these positions appeal to folks here.

Given my background and occupation, it'd be irrespondible for me not to include myself as a candidate for the judiciary.
I'm in.

I don't know if I could be a judge AND an ambassador-- but a justice seems to have far more job security.
I've always looked up to the Supreme Court as the most trustworthy part of the government as an independent body.

I've hinted at, and advised others directly that I would take such a position. The court needs to be independent, and I am not affiliated with either party.
Thank you, and Good Night Apolyton.

Wow certainly we can't complain about a lack of interest for this
Will be tough to determine which people should be in...
BTW, It is too bad judge elections/appointments will be just after the minister elections. This way people who lose their elections can go for something else, because they do not want to have nothing at all

I would be interested in being a judge, although I am not sure if it will hinder my ability to participate in the rest of the game.

I would strongly recommend jdjdjd as one of the first primary judges of our nation.
He would make an excellent person for this job.

What would we use a judge for? The only way someone could commit a crime is the pres abusing his power. The punishment for that is obvious: banishment from the forum. Do we need judges for that?

Please read the first post where I outlined the general duties of the position as well as ambiguities that remain.
---
Well, it certainly seems we will not be lacking for people willing to be Judges/Justices. If this becomes an elected position (rather than appointed & confirmed), well then....
Hopefully we can put together a really clear and concise amendment so you'll all know what you're getting into.
We've already established a consensus that Judges cannot hold other governmental offices, but one thing we haven't yet considered fully is whether or not Judges can hold other prominent positions, such as Newspaper editor or Party leader. There may be a conflict of interest there. Still, that's for another thread to debate. This is just to find out who's interested.
I'll also mention that I'm not actively seeking a position as a Justice seeing how there is plenty enough interest already (and I do occasionally take a few days break away from Apolyton), but probably wouldn't refuse it if appointed or elected. As is, I doubt we'll ever be lacking in Judges for this entire game. Still, if you're interested, post here. Trip or Ninot, whoever is next President, may be able to use this listing to set up appointments or elections.

Here's an idea: all judges must be independents. No party politics.

Wasn't there a debate about whether or not they must be independent in the other court thread?

The debate was unresolved. Some people changed their minds in both direction, so it doesn't help

I think the judiciary should be independent with staggered nominations to ensure independence, as well as 67% vote against them to be impeached. But that should be kind is being debated in another thread.
Oh and I'll signal my williness and desire to be a justice.
Opinions:
I am strongly against the judiciary taking any more power than is directly authorized by the people.
I believe that the only reason they can strike down a law is that it directly conflicts with the constitution.
If elected. I will ensure the judiciary keeps a list of all laws which have been passed. (This should take some of the burden off the president)
