Go for it Hydey. Life is still a little hectic for me, so I'd suggest you skip me until further notice.

I've d/l'ed the save... I should be able to play in the next day or two.

Should we be cutting back to 10 or 8 turns, or still play 12?

I played 4 turns before leaving for work today; so I'll play at least 4 more and see how it goes.

Popes in sunglasses.
STYOM retakes the seat of power... oooh, magazines .

We have no embassies with anyone! Obviously someone has discovered Communism... but who? And what other sciences are out there for us to steal?

Goals:
1) Regain science lead
2) Capture Trondheim (Pyramids), then grow Stonehenge (23) and Temptation Isle (8) with food Freights
3) Establish embassies with everyone... or at least build UN

1790: Some production orders near the front lines changed to diplomats and cavalry. A few are rushed - we're swimming in cash.

1792: Peace refused with Vikings. Vikings have no new techs.
Embassy with Russians - they know Communism!

1794: Trondheim captured (Pyramids). Embassy with Vikings. Some Freights delivered.

1796: Kaupang captured; Vikings destroyed.

Ummm... help me out here... who cleared the Jungle w/ Gems near Temptation Isle??

Eritrea captured.

Diplomats report that the Babylonians are almost finished UN!

1798: STYOM violates several vows.

Nineveh builds UN!

1800: Communism stolen from Babylonians.

1802: Embassy with Babylonians. Nineveh revolts to our cause with UN inside! Diplomatic enquiries reveal that there are no unknown techs in the hands of any of the infidels.

1804: Amphibious Warfare discovered. Mmmm, tough call... we choose to research Espionage before Genetic Engineering. CfC would be nice, for celebrations, but those spies are really needed if we are to keep our technology lead (it seems most AI cities have already had technology stolen from them!)

1806: Much freight delivered. Trade with Egypt = Coordination of shipchains.

1808: Pulp It founded.

1810: Espionage discovered. Researching Steel (Genetic Engineering not offered )

Drowning in money (and thus feeling very much like a Pope now), STYOM retires to contemplate the loopholes in his vow of poverty.

********************
We're in position to roll now. We have a very profitable shipchain set up to Egypt. Demanded goods are routinely bringing 500+ g per freight - I only needed 3 freights to Alexandrie to fill the beaker window last turn

As a result, we have enough money now (9000) to rushbuy a lot of freights - or to rushbuy most AI cities, too... My successor can choose which, though the AI cities are great to trade with.

I also intended to route all freights through our original island as follows:
-Stonehenge departs for Egypt (shipchain in place);
-Sacred Buffalo departs for Babylon via Coolfundy and Western Text; (boats nearby)
-Slim Buttes departs for Russia via New Lutefisk and Vodka ImPort. (need to set up chain with boats from New Lutefisk)

There are 3 Freights sleeping near Egypt on a transport that can be delivered next turn - no point wasting the science bonus now.

I was building up Temptation Isle with Food Freights... I did build Stonehenge too big, stupidly

Next!

That's why I asked. 'a while' is kind of vague.

IIRC, La Fayette is next, then Jrabbit (though I don't know if his comp problems were fixed). If he doesn't show up soon, I'll go ahead.

Not fixed. Watching the field reports with interest and glee however.

I think I've ID'd the problem but it probably makes sense to consider me unavailable until further notice.

It is midnight and I managed only 5 turns until now, but I shall play the other 5 in the morning.

The current business is very simple: build as many freights as possible and deliver them in Alexandrie, which is a very fine example of 'repeated commodity' (the most common is hides, but in Alexandrie it is SILK ). This provides a rate of research close to 1 tech/turn, only with freights .

Here is the report of deliveries in Alexandrie:

1812: Salt = 228g; Silk = 624g; Cloth = 220g.
1814: Gold = 350g; Silk = 744g; Jewels = 180g + 202g; Salt = 245g.
1816: Pearls = 154g; Hides= 122g; Cloth = 180g.
1818: Silk = 818g; Pearls = 248g.
1820: Pearls = 208g; Silk = 608g + 690g; Salt = 224g.

Techs discovered: Steel, Machine Tools, Refining, Combustion and Automobile.

Other events:
A horde of barbs lands close to Jihadsville and asks for 9100g after having killed our 2 valiant riflemen.
We say 'nuts' and they take the city, that we buy back on the same turn for 65g . This gives the following balance sheet for units:
Lost: 2 riflemen and 1 spy (= 110 shields)
Acquired: 4 dragoons + 2 partisans ( = 300 shields)
( = a friendly smile to my pals the barbs)

@Hydey
How delightful it is to know that someone is waiting for you so eagerly!
I shouldn't have written 'morning' (because I sometimes enjoy it just to stay in bed on sunday morning, and this is precisely what I did ).

Anyway it's done now. I have kept the rate of 1 tech/turn with help of numerous freights delivered to Alexandrie. This leaves us with 11 techs needed until launch and our treasury is so high (over 30 000g) that we shall be able to buy our SS parts instead of building them .

Techs discovered: Miniaturization, Mobile Warfare, Mass Production and Flight.
Freights delivered in Alexandrie:
1824: Wool =184g; Oil = 324 + 240g; Jewels = 172g; Wine = 224g; Silk = 612g.
1826: Dye = 272g; Oil = 252g; Gold = 212g; Silk = 522g; Wine = 501g.
1828: Hides = 132g; Wine = 136g; Silk = 774 + 1322g

(BTW who built 'New Lutefisk'? I am convinced that lutefisk is typically Norwegian and I didn't know anyone playing this game had Norwegian connections)

New Lutefisk was my idea. It's a borrowed name from an earlier succession game. Did it to see if Marquis would notice.

I'll play in the morning (about 12 hours from now).

Left Priest Cthulhu arrives in Stonehenge in 1830 to assume command of the Zealots.

1830: Freighter deliveries in Alexandrie and Pi-Ramesses.

1832: Started (and almost finished!) construction of SETI in Men-al-Tol. More caravan shuffling. Discovered Computers. Now working on Radio.

1834: Struggling to keep the ship chain in one piece. Sorry. Finished SETI. r0x0r. Should discover Radio next turn.

1836: More shuffling. Discovered Radio, now working on AdvFlight.

1838: Egyptians discover Feudalism. More caravan shuffling.

Pressed for time, Cthulhu decides to step down as Leftpriest (sorry). He was last sighted in Lutefisk.

Yes, I noticed!

La Fayette, in that succession game, we were the Vikings, Lutefisk was our capitol.

I strongly agree that, for a Viking capital, lutefisk is a much better name than pizza or ochsenschwannsuppe .

Right, right... I'm back.
I have to:
- burn some papers on my desk;
- clean al the mess in my house;
- connect, install MGE

... and then I can play.
I hope to do most of this today/tonight (I like firecamp with business papers ) so I can play tonight/tomorrrow.

Trying to walk down the mountain...

Mr. N.

May I suggest that you choose Etna as a mountain next time. You take your business papers with you and the mountain will do the burning for you
(BTW which is YOUR mountain?)
