Persian Immortals are still around today!
The Iranian Javidam "Immortal" Guard traces their units to the times of the founding of the Persian Empire 2500 years ago. I guess they upgraded their units a few times since then since they aren't using swords anymore. Cool, huh?

I'm playing Aeson's map (deity / tundra island start) and my Immortals are cleansing the nearby continent. They're up against Infantry now but still doing a good job.
