Totally agree.
It's influence is still being felt today, 1400 years after it "ceased" to exist. (I know it politically continue until 1453, but the Justinian was really the last "Roman" emperor to have an influence on Western culture. Also, Rome was effectively destroyed in his wars against the Goths.)

I disagree with your statement about Justinian.
Byzantium influenced western politics (and politics are part of the culture) up to its end. Also, the definite end of this
history is only fall of Trebizond, 1461.

Information for Saras;
in fact I don't know what is Polish GDP.
In the web, I found such information;
in year 2000, Polish GDP was 8,500USD pc,
with USD stronger than Euro up to 10%,
and it must have got even better now.

Well, on the web I found that Elvis was alive
You probably saw PPP figures, according to which lithuania is also about 7-8 thousand.

Lithuania is a little country west of Russia with no real impact on history. Give it up.

Wrestling is fake, but I like my signature. It looks cool! And no one bothers to read a quote from some old general or king from the 18th century.
And you got something against Georgia? I think it's pointless to argue with a poster from Vilnius that quotes from old guys no one cares about.

The United States continues to maintain military and political control of foreign terrority. Just think of all the Native Indian land occupied by the United States.
Canada also qualifies as an empire based on this criteria.
Add to that the land that the United States has bought from other nations. Then there are the military bases throughout the world. No other country has such an extensive collection of overseas territory.
Put it all together and I'd say the United States most certainly qualifies as an empire.

Heresson, Lithuania and Poland was one country for long, so you should now also make Lithunian second language. Truth is quite differen and although we in fact were one country for long, we aren't now, so we also aren't forced to keep each other's languages.
Dalgetti, I do consider your post as an insult cause this is still discution under topic (which empire was the greater - Poland or Lithuania) and also if you want you can start other discution under this topic.
King of Raslin I believe is from USA's Georgia. And Lithuania had impact to history, once Russia was being called "a small country west of Lithuania".

Lithuanian language was never the official one in Poland,
it even wasn't used as political language of Lithuania,
and there was almost no Lithuanian minority in Poland, while all eastern historical Lithuania was inhabited by
Polish-speaking, considering themselves both Poles and Lithuanian, people. Pi?sudzki thought of himself as Lithuanian too, as well as Mickiewicz. Remember that our national epopea starts with words; "Lithuania, my fatherland"... It was Lithuanian tradition, part of Polish one,
that Lithuania backed off. Eastern Lithuania still claimed
itself to be a part of Poland and so, it had the right to be
Polish.

Georgia was once a major power. In fact, we almost defeated the Union! Because of the bravery of our soldiers, the country of Georgia changed their name to reflect upon how passionately we fought. And lost.

I hate to admite it Saras but I'd rather live in Georgia then just about any where in the former USSR. BTW there's nothing hick about Atlanta there's lots of big businesses headquartered there. Have you ever heard of CNN or the Coca-Cola Company?

You, sir, will die of seriousness.
I also bet you ain't seen much of the ex soviet union, have you?
--"Have you ever heard of CNN or the Coca-Cola Company?"
Yeah, one broadcasts some of the worst (however mostly breaking and dangerously obtained) news and another sells water with sugar and gas?
On a sidenote, why does CNN keep that loudmouth Richard Quest in their London bureau? He's such a joke.

No, only for really bad hangovers. If you feel really bad and need to trow up, then sure Coca-Cola is the best choice.
For normal hangovers "rassol" is the best choice.

Heresson, we also used Russian language once but that doesn't means we should do it now. Lithuanian is language of Lithuanians, not Polish or Russian. And eastern Lithuania later wanted to reunite with western one.

Eastern Lithuania never wanted to reunite. It's like
"This fish begged me to eat it".
Obvious propaganda. Why Poles of Lithuania would like to live under Lithuanian rule?
"Georgia was once a major power. In fact, we almost defeated the Union! Because of the bravery of our soldiers, the country of Georgia changed their name to reflect upon how passionately we fought. And lost. "
Could You explain and extend this text? I don't understand? Which name was changed? When did You nearly defeat the Union (Soviet one I guess so after ww1, but I may be wrong after all)?

"This fish begged me to eat it".
Obvious propaganda. Why Poles of Lithuania would like to live under Lithuanian rule? We actually wanted to live in one state with Lithuanians after ww1. You didn't want it, and Wilno/Vilnius was the obvious prise You had to pay for being clearly national Lithuanian state.
Ruthenian was the official language for Lithuania centuries ago, but it wasn't a language of majority of all eastern Lithuania.
"Georgia was once a major power. In fact, we almost defeated the Union! Because of the bravery of our soldiers, the country of Georgia changed their name to reflect upon how passionately we fought. And lost. "

Nope, the American Union. At Gettysburg.
