Why Are Geeks Either Really Skinny Or Completely Obese?
Whenever we do one of those height/weight thingies, it shows that only around 10% of posters here are around average weight for their height, and those 10% tend to be posters who don't play much Civ or who don't consider Apolyton the most important thing in their lives right now.
Discuss.

I'm just about average weight for my height. (72 kilos, 1.80m) and I (used to) play a lot of civ...

Hate to agree with you but I'm average weight for my height and I don't play much Civ and Apolyton is somewhere to go when I'm really bored at work.

..and the mis-shaped 90% also tend to be people who think it's cool to have odd sleeping patterns.

Probably because there is more time spend at computer/internet/tv/console than doing sports!?

The answer is simple. Either they just stay at home in front of their pc/console/tv(whatever they fancy) and starve - hence they're skinny - or they just stay at home in front of their pc/console/tv(whatever they fancy) and have a big bowl of Doritos by their side all the time - hence they grow obese.

Funny you should bring this up. In Boddington's last anti-flab jihad he mentioned he was in the upper section of the "normal" weight grouping for his height.
Then a few days ago he mentioned he'd put on weight in the last 6 months.
Hello Mr Chubber.

So does this mean that civ alters your physical appearence?
Hmmm, me being 180 cm and about 90 kg: yep, there is some extra around my waist, but I wouldn't say I'm fat. I excersice every day (about 30 km = 20 miles bicycling) to keep in shape.

Stewie, your bigoted stereotyping is getting old.
I've managed hundreds of "geeks" during my career, and the variety of physical attributes is no different than the general population. There have even been some very "hot" babes. So use your narrow mind to concentrate on something else. If that's possible. *sigh*

Well, I use the computer alot, have odd sleeping patterns (well, as long as it is summer) and my weight index is around 22.8, in other words pretty friggin' close to the ideal.
Then again, I've been swimming regularly since January, so that oughta get me some exercise.

I'll have you know the only reason I stay up 'till 2:30 am most nights is so I can come and have scintiiating conversation here.

So, now that you've outed yourself as a lardo, which of your two categories do you fall into? Do you live for Civ or 'Poly?

My weight I've approximated at 13 stones = 81.72kg
My height I've approximated at 6 feet = 182.88cm
81.72/1.8288^2 = 24.434
Towards the higher end of the BMI range for normal (the normal range is 20-25), but still easily within. And I carry more muscle than most of my age group having bulked up in the last six months (which is where the seven pounds have gone, RJ).
So I'm no chubb.
