From what they say, they are still hedging their bets a little ("provided beta testing goes OK", or something like that IIRC). So don't be TOO disappointed if Friday comes and goes without the patch.

After 1.17 came 1.21. If you haven't played 1.21 you're already missing a bundle.
But I have Win XP and every version of civ has run fine. Did you upgrade to XP? My comp is a P4 with XP factory installed from the begining and no problemos.

So what do you mean it won't launch in any mode, what exactly happens? I had a problem after I upgraded to XP from 98 with the screen going black, but that was solved as soon as I upgraded my video drivers. I haven't had any problems since.

I had the video card errors too and solved it with correct video and monitor drivers(not generics)...but if the the prog fails to execute period I would suggest pulling your hair and cursing MS.
I, on the other hand cant be more pleased. The game works, my OS works, and I don't work much. Too boot I just got DSL installed so bring on da patch!

It must be an upgrade issue, I have a factory-installed XP machine, as well, and have had no problems. Of course, before i had this machine, I tried installing CIV3 on a 200mHz Win98 machine. Boy, did that ever go badly...

Re: I hope this one works on WinXP!
i havent played in a while, but last I played it was the 1.21 patch, on winxp (factory installed) and the only problem was more of a game issue than OS specific (had to do with dissapeared units after a nuke, but came back after reload)
Can't wait to see the new editor thats for sure, and probably will play some
what i want the most though is the editor!!

It is a pain in the butt being closer to the International Dateline than most of the rest of the world. I have to wait until Thursday for the readme.txt!
Alas it could be worse - I could be a New Zealander

Hopefully later this morning you will see the readme.
Great things from what has been mentioned in the chats so far. My boss said I could take off early on Friday, use some vacation time, so I could see the chat.

A new thread. That is the tradition and helps to highlight the subject.

Great chat. Can't wait to see an edited transcript.
Thanks for setting it up Mark.
