I'm kind of worried because in just over two weeks I'm going to be studying at Missouri.
Maybe I'll just stay here in Beijing, where people stick to eating roast dog meat.

This is sick. Such an utter disrepect for life. Life imprisonment in hard labour camp with possible parole after 20 years.

I think that's a tad harsh - maybe a week in jail and a big fine. Its just a cat.

No.
A brother of a friend I used to have when I was a kid was like this (and, to a lesser degree, so was the friend) one of the more memorable things that his brother did to me was shoot arrows at me - got one stuck in my foot.

They where home made (little more then a carved stick with a nail on the end), but yes. His bow was also home made though, so it didn't have alot of power or accuracy which is why he only hit me in the foot, and just barely pierced the skin. (though it did have to go through my shoe, aswell...)

I hate those crazy kids. I hated them even when I was small myself. Sometimes I asked my mother : " mum , why do they behave that way? "

Why is a rock smarter than a cat?
Because at least a rock knows to stay away when you kick it.
Sorry.

While I agree that this was a sick and deranged act, surely the government can not enforce morality. I can't say I want a harsh sentence for this guy, but if something bad were to happen to him, say he were to become seriously ill, and go bankrupt trying to pay his medical bills, I wouldn't sympathize with the bastard.

At least tell me, why all of you feeling so sorry for the poor cat and cursing that person so much, would you feel so sorry for human killing?

This is the bizarre contradiction of it Solver. Did you see the thread at CGN regarding poly's kitten banners?
http://www.civgaming.net/forums/show...3&pagenumber=1
It's quite bizarre how people can get so upset over a bleeding cat, a vastly less intelligent organism than ourselves, yet can advocate torture and not be bothered when millions of people die unnecessarily all the time.
My objection with this is that it was cruel, although I have no moral objection to eating cats if done humanely, like any other animal. I mean, we object to other countries such as Korea eating dogs, yet we eat pigs which are regarded as more intelligent than canines. I find it disgusting that we can stand in judgement of another country on our own double standards, which simply do not apply.

Yep PH, saw the CGN thread, enjoyed it a lot, and then it was there almost immediately after our kitten banners.
Well, Jews can't eat pigs, but otherwise I agree with you completely - any animal might be eaten, if killed humanely. Many religions ask for them to be killed in a human way, and then it's perfectly OK to eat cats, dogs, snakes, whatever else.
And really, I believe that when a Palestenian terrorist (sorry for ME) blows up 20 Israeli children, some of people supporting kittens with such a passion wouldn't react much.

It may "just be a cat", but if anyone ever did something like that to one of mine, they would get it just as bad or worse.

So we can't register disgust with this particularly nasty act of inhumane cruelty unless we add a thousand caveats that we have the same respect for innocent human lives, etc.?
 What asinine thinking.

Provost , it's not that I don't feel sympathy with the human victims of everything worldwide , it's a response to a barbaric act.
I don't think that animals have rights, but any normal (yes , who am I to tell who's normal and who's not, normal doesn't mean better , blah blah blah ) person will see sheer cruelty that is a fruit of a deranged mind , that also constitutes danger to society.

It's the innocence and defenselessness of the victim that makes it so tragic - the same reason that we hate see children or inphants victimized in the same way.

Oswald , The innocence and the defencelessness of the subject are a side issue , After all , I wouldn't feel bad if a person would eat an innocent cow, as many of us do , day by day. It's the illogical cruelty, of the perpetrator that shocks and enrages me. The fact that they had no reason whatsoever to do , but did it anyway , just because they could.

That's pretty much just another way of saying what I just said.
"They had no reason to do it" - their victim was innocent.
"But did it anyway, Just because they could" - their victim was defensless.

First of all, there is a difference between eating and what we are talking about in this thread.
But, I think that any compassionate person would feel the same about a cow who was being tortured in the same way. Even though most cows that end up on people's plates do live a life of torture and misery, few people are exposed to it, or are even aware of what the animal that feeds them go through.

no , It's not Oswald . My concerns are for the welfare of humans, not animals. this mindless cruelty is evil. Of course , that doesn't mean that I put kittens to sleep at my own free time , what it does mean is that the kitten is not the issue here.
