Russia killing me with War Weariness
Being killed by war weariness. Last game Russia had 3/5 of land. She conquered India and Babylon without declaring war. Naughty.
Then she attacked me just after I finished a 20 turn war. WW prevented me from having any new city last thruout the war. War with Russia was only 25 turns, but even new cities I planted had "draft" and "oppression" WW statements of unhappiness.
I have not been able to find any definitive statements on how WW actually works.
What ideas do you have for testing War Weariness?
How would you set up a test game?
Items I would like to know:
- Is there a hard limit on the max num of turns of warfare
- How fast does WW build?
- How fast does WW dissipate?
- What are the messages generated by WW?
- Is the WW growth rate incremental or geometric?
- Is the WW reduction rate incremental or geometric?
- How much does Univ Suff reduce WW?
ideas?

Republic's WW is less that Demo. Or better yet just switch to Communism.

Only one tonic for that;
Uni Sufferage and heaps of police stations! They really do dull the pain

All fear Russia!
Anyway...I don't go into war. I let everyone else go into war, and then I usually win through cultural or spaceship victory. But yeah, Univseral Sufferege and Police Stations really help, and if your a communist government....There is no war weriness.

Had Uni Suff. Put police in all new cities. Still had cities on Russia continent going unhappy.
Here's a follow up question. Say you are republic/monarchy and switch to commie to finish war. When you switch back to rep/mon are your years as commie counted as years of peace or years of war?

See this thread -- there was no stomach for extensive testing.

Thanks, I remember seeing your thread before but did not discover anything beyond the basics. Looks like it will take some time to crack this nut.
I am guessing this is what would have to be done to test WW:
1. base level game-- saved each turn, no war
2. document game--saved each turn. Same game, start a war, keep forces in enemy territory, keep on til WW meltdown.
Don't see how we can get anywhere until the worst scenario is discovered. Need to see what 1.29 has first but might be interesting to get this figured out.
thanks

I frankly think testing would be a lot tougher than it might initially seem. With multiple known variables (troops in eneny territory, enemy troops in home territory, and engaging in combat) and potentially many unknown variables (population as a whole or on a city by city basis, the interplay of happiness inducers and WW, relative cultural strenghts of combatants, "traditional enemy" implications, etc.) I think it would take comment from the designers to clear the mystery.
[And I'm not sure gameplay would be enhanced with significant clarification - I like the idea of being a leader, and trying to gauge my peoples' satisfaction / dissatisfaction -- tough to do accurately both in the game and in RL!]

I've learned a few things about how WW appears to work. I'd like to know specifics also, but it's worse if you appear to be losing, especially if you lose a city. If enemy units are in your territory, it seems to increase WW, if you have troops in enemy territory, it seems to decrease, though the opposite would make sense. If you take a lot of enemy cities, it disappears for a while. So basically, in my experience, WW isn't a problem as long as you're winning the war, but even after 10-15 turns it can start to go out of control, especially without sufferage under democracy.

if you loose units, WW will go up too.
