To Dave and/or others: Wall Paper
For a long, long time I've used the CtP2 wallpapers to decorate my desktop, but with my new PC probably arriving this weekend, I'd like to make a fresh start with a new desktop. I really liked the montages of the Succession Games, any change any of you gifted graphics artists (hi Dave! ) could design a cool Cradle/MedMod/WaW/whatever desktop image for me? I don't have any specific preferences on what it should be like, anything but those cool but worn-out Activision ones will do... I don't know yet what screen resolution I'll be using but if it's made really big (what's standard 'large' these days? 1280x1024, 1200x1600?), it can always be resized...

Great idea! That would be quite an impressive thing to see I'm sure.
ooh, while we're there, I think the opening screen of the game could be redesigned as well, without that stupid bloke in the middle, and with some mods/avatars.

It'll be a few days before I can get to it, but I will do something.
Meanwhile, here's a little someting I worked on recently while updating my avatar. Ben, I think you will like this (a little something from LOTR/TTT). It makes for a nice desktop
Here it is...

Hey, great Of course I understand that that sort of thing would take some time, take all the time you need...
Aha, I knew I recognized that eye from somewhere... I guess until you can come up with something CtP related it wouldn't be a bad idea to have an LOTR desktop...

Dave, I think I already know the answer but formally I have to ask: can I add these to the database?

Of course!
If there is a call for more subtle desktops, I can tone them down - and also drop the logo too (for the final versions).
Whatever you want...

I like version 3 best, without the logo perhaps.

Well, they're fine to me, but others might like toned down version, you could make both. The more choice the better... I kinda like the logo myself, but it would look good without it as well. Whatever *you* want
I too like #3 best, it even looks good on 1600x1200 (the resolution of my new PC), on which I am using it right now

1600 x 1200 ouch What size is the monitor? At 17inch i dont think i could see the cursor at that res. In fact it wont go that high.
i like desktops with alot of detail on, it gives me something to look at when im bored. And without any corporate logos, nothin too flash.

It's a 19" monitor and it looks exactly right Only some of the fonts are hard to read when they have a poor background (like the topleft corner of wallpaper #3 ), but I adjusted the font size a little (for some reason I can't seem to change the color, that would have solved the problem too) and now they look okay, regardless of background
Best part is, I used to play a lot on a 'small' map in CtP2, I thought that was already quite large. Now a small map almost entirely fits on a single screen

Are they 800x600 too, or just higher?

Those 3 are 1024 x 768, they stretch well to higher resolutions too.

For the database I resized each of them to 640x800, 800x600, 1024x768 and 1280x960. They can easily be stretched/resized to other sizes as well though. (They will all be available in the databases shortly).

Cool, Locutus! With my crappy 15" monitor, anything above 800x600 needs to be read with a microscope.

Er... I'm so embarassed... how do I download those wallpapers from the database? I noticed that the 800x600 one has more than 1,000 KB, but all I could do was to click on it to enlarge it and then to save it to a folder, but that was an instantaneous process, I did not downloaded it. I guess that if I try to use that saved image it will have a poor resolution, because what is in my HD is not the 800x600 image.

Don't worry, I didn't get it the first time either, it's not exactly intuitive. Once you've found the file you want to download, click on the name (or the picture if that's possible) to go to the 'details' screen, then click on the name again to download it...
Oh, I hadn't even mentioned it here tet, but the desktops can be found in the Apolyton Directory.
