Will this be the last patch?
Whats the consensus will this be the last patch for CIV3 (not PtW)? I stopped modding my game because of the hardcoded limits and bugs and since I had to totally re-do it every 2 months. Now it looks like it may be worthwhile again?

According to Firaxis, yes.

I know how you feel, I'm in the process of redoing my mod yet again, and I can't even use the MultiTool at the moment, making it a bit of a grind. I'm sure we can expect some changes in PtW, and no doubt at least one patch after that, so who knows whether this will be the last time or not. I hope so, I would like to start playing it rather than modding it.

Why do you have to redo it? unless you used the Civ3Mod.bic and did not backup before you instaled the patch, you can just open it in the editor and resave can't you?

At least now you can use the 'import' feature to bring in all the rules from your olde modded bic, rather than doing it by hand.

Because they keep changing the rules on me!
Or should I say they keep giving me more ways to change the rules. Just when I figure out how I want the game to go, they add more things I can do, and I have to start all over again.

Wait a minute. I tried to use my old mod (1.21) after 1.29 was installed, both in the Civ 3 folder and a scenarios folder. BOTH TIMES I GOT ERROR MESSAGES.
But when I imported it in to the basic .bic IT THEN WORKED. So importing was needed by me.
As for Firaxis, "the last patch"??
Kindly tell us then why you guys are so obsessed with sticking us with this Culture Flipping crap and Settler Diarhea nonsense?? Why? It is non-historical and dumb. GET RID OF THEM.

Dumb? Maybe. But who cares about non-hisotrical? Have you ever read about a cave-dwelling Abe wearing animal hides? Or a Germany and France having an eternal peace treaty, trading such resources as coal on a lang term basis, while living mainly in South America? No. But this happens in the game. As stated, it isn't modelling history, but making a model for creating one's own history.
But why do I bother? People are still going to complain endlessly like a broken record about disagreements they have with Firaxis' idea of how the game should work.

There will probably be one more patch (two if we're lucky) after PtW is released but that will be it unless there is a second expansion. Personally, I hope we get a CTP style spin-off that has a scripting language.

People ask this about all manner of things in life...fighting higher taxes, trying to prove the existence of God...and then there's trying to keep your head from exploding whenever Coracle slithers up.
(EDIT: Got lost in between threads. Snipped portion irrelevant to this one and moved it elsewhere)
ON TOPIC--
Unless something catastrophic pops up owing to this patch, I think that we're full up on Civ III patches until PtW.

Import lets you combine BICs so it may be better to make a new BIC with new rules if any then import your old one.
Rember it is best to not modify the Civ3Mod.bic.
Coracle did you try to open it the editor?
If you want people to lisen to you, you may want to give constructive criticism and not just say "GET RID OF THEM." like say can the 0% chance to flip in the editor be fixed so it works corectly, or maybe add an option to turn off Culture Flipping, this would be varry useful.

Spencer - where are you actually from? That's a Canadian and a Swedish flag I've seen you with
ON TOPIC - Presumably, they'll be patches for PTW. Also, PTW will have a seperate .exe, so there might well be more patches for CivIII itself.

I hope there's a few more patches - if they stop they're obvoiusly completly finished with the game and onto something else.

The last patch for Civ 3 not PtW. We'll be given PtW patches, but not vanilla Civ 3.

Really? Well I suppose we should be happy they reckon they've perfected the game, but still...
Nothing beat the anticipation of downloading a new civ3 patch!

Perfected? With no AI scripting, triggers or force diplomacy? Don't get me wrong, the 1.29f pach is great, but I can't understand why these have been left out. Perfected my arse.

wow, i guess people can never be pleased...
people complain about the game and yell at the makers for a patch, then when the makers do patch it in an effort to please the gamers and improve the game, people complain that the patch is making them have to redo some mods....
interesting.

No no no - I love the 1.29f patch! I just wonder how we can do non-global scenarios without a flat map, or a WWII scenario where America declares a Military Alliance with the Third Reich...

The biggest room for improvement remaining is the AI and lack of diplomacy options. Since there won't be any more patches I'll just have to pray these make it into PtW.

While it may look ugly, you could line both sides of the map, top to bottom, with mountains and have a narrow sea in the middle. I've never tried it (yet), so this idea may not work.
