I wonder if Mark ever feels sad about things like this?
Hopefully not. Didn't hurt me at SidGames.

If you see that message, just try again anywhere from 30 seconds to a few minutes. It simply means at that particular second that you sent your connection request the forum database had reached its peak and was denying your request at that instant so as to not overload.
In that regard, it could be fine but a few seconds later or before... no reason to panic, but appreciate your bringing it to our attention.

By guest does that mean guest or members or just anyone accessing the site?

It differs on which page.
If it's on the forums main, then it's everyone accessing.
If it's on the main apoly page, It's everyone in the forums (including members)
-Thanks dan

No, Will Moeller. I'm the guy who created the Alpha Centauri Nexus, which at the height of SMAC popularity recieved more traffic than Apolyton's FBAC.
I have spoken to Kunal on the phone though. He is busy with his girl friend now or something.

the message is the default one, covering both cases. there is currently no limit on the amount of guests browsing the forums. therefore, the message means that the server is too busy

Ah, I imagine the patch is being a little bandwidth consuming.
Out of curiousity - what is the maximum bandwidth of the server?

Kunal Shah is being mentioned much too often now .
Markos, is the server going back to normal now? I've also been seeing the messages yesterday, damn the Civ 3 patch.

Poor Markos! If you mail me your address, I'll send you a 500 $ check, to compensate your losses. It must have been tough.

Kunal Shah aka Whistler ran Sidgames.
An immature and somehwta dictatorial figfure who makes Markos' attitute towards threads about Macedoni and hairy Greeks look positively placid. IIRC he had something of a Nazi fetish and was desparate to get into the drawers of TotKG. Played a lot of favourites and was the taregt of choice for ACOL before sidgames self combusted and the attention passed towards 'Poly.
In retrospect I can see whay Solver has issues with Mr Shah. I shouldn't have asked - the connection was obvious with alittle thought.
Solver - I apologise if I brought up any unpleasant memories or thoughts because I didn't thionk before asking the question.

He just had a short fuse at times. He had a nack for sucking up when it was important to. And despite what some believe, the relationship between ACS and SidGames wasn't bad. Mark and Dan were banned a few times, but just temporarily. Kunal did have a plan of annexing Apolyton once Gamestats went down.

Its quite hard to imagine Dan ever doing anything to justify getting banned.

TotKG?
I guess we should be glad that are Mods are as stealth as they are (sometimes MarkG is not very stealthy though)
DanQ is ultra stealthy thoguh
I think I wandered over to SidGames for a total of 10 minutes one day

I don't remember if Dan actually did something. It might have been Mark doing something and Dan getting banned along with him.
