Helicopter Help
Okay, I'm a beginner player, well I'd more say a newbie. I play on Warlord, I used to have MPG but now I'm back to 2.44 or whatever it is. The thing is I was playing a world game. I was America as usual, and I had the French, Spanish, Celts, and Sioux. I don't remember encountering the Sioux at the start, but toward the middle I had N America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East under my control. I began to move into Asia exploring with my Stealth bombers. Then, what do I see? There is the Sioux?!? They have about 10 cities with rail connections and average size of 10. I began to send in a large helicopter fleet to take them out, as there were no roads to there and I wanted to hurry up and get to building a spaceship. As I was sending them over the Pacific and East Asia I noticed that the strength of each helicopter was decreasing each turn. What causes this and how do I stop it? Also, is it true that you can move infantry with helicopters? I haven't figured out how, and neither has our small group of Civ II players around here. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The Helicopter unit loses a small amount of its hit points each time it doesn't end its turn in a friendly city or airbase. The only way to counter this built-in disadvantage of the unit is to always move it between cities or airbases instead of letting it end its turn in the field. The unit repairs itself gradually when stationed in a city (it repairs in one turn if that city has an Airport).

You can't move other units by the use of Helicopters. Land units can be transported by Triremes, Galleons, Caravels, Frigates and Transports - or they can be transfered between cities with Airports. In addition, Nuclear and Cruise Missiles can be transported by Submarines, but that's it I'm afraid.

You can also put Helicopters on a Carrier to prevent the loss of hit points.

You're probably right Ribannah. Never built a Carrier in four years of civin' so I have no basis for saying you're wrong.

IIRC, you can send them all the way and then station them on a small island to sleep 4 a while...

Yep! That's what makes them so nice. They act as a land unit when it comes to occupying cities.

I use helicopters as sentries. Station 4 in a city and then send em out three squares in one direction and then send them back their last three moves. They have 2x sight. Another way to use them is to use them like that except you use them on carriers send them ahead five have the carrier move ahead and catch up to them. Best for sub spotting.
