I wasn't all that impressed by the demo for EE. I'm waiting for RoN now, and I hope that it's better.

The demo for EE was the worst I have ever seen. Thankfully the game, itself, was much better

Not great. It's okay, but as far as RTS games go, pretty standard. If they don't hold your attention for long, it will bore you after a few days. The coolest things about it are the 3D zoom-in and the sheer number of units and epochs involved.
However, the included campaigns stink, and some of the interface (like air combat) is damned awful. I'd say if you have AoE II, or can get it, then give EE a miss.

Just because you're a damn conservative, does not mean that you can skimp on details of your opinion.
So what have you really liked about it? Do you agree or disagree with Boris??
And thanks for your comments, Boris.

Warcraft III! Might be the best game out there for online play, I love this game even though I am not that big of an RTS person.

Best wargame company around, save perhaps the EU guys. They have lots of great games, the Panzer Campaigns series, Napoleon's Russian Campaign, and Campaign 1776, just to name a few. The just-released Fulda Gap '85 looks highly intruiging as well.

It isn't just my opinion. Look at any review of the game and you'll find it littered with comparisons to Diablo. The only difference between thier opinion and mine is that they think that it compares favorably.

Since he didn't specify new games, I'll fill in a few slots...
RTS: Total Annhilation. As far as I'm concerned, this game is the benchmark for the genre. The company that made it is now out of business, but it can still be found in $10 jewel case format. Try to get the expansions, because most if not all 3rd party mods (and there is a neverending supply of those) require it.
TBS: Master of Orion 2. You probably know about this one, but in case you don't, go to the MoO forum on this site.
FPS: System Shock 2. It is not a 'standard' FPS, and requires a lot more planning and strategy. It is also not a game you want to play just before bed.

Ghost Recon and the XP, Desert Siege. Very realistic - weapons fire at the same rate as in real life, etc.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is pretty good for FPS.
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is really good, if you like the RPG genre.
World War II: Panzer Claws looks like it might be good, don't know as it isn't out yet...

I have to agree with Fez, Tropico is one of the best simulation games ever!!!
Simcity eat your heart out!
Anyways, I ruled in Tropico as a friend of the people and payed everyone 15 pesos with plenty of medical care and education. Plus the music and sound in tropico is excellent.

Unarguably true, you can't go wrong with Squaresoft.
However I have to admit that when it comes to Super Nintendo RPGs I preferred Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana 1 & 2 over their Final Fantasy counterparts, but the abovementioned are Squaresoft games as well so my conclusion remains: you just can't go wrong with Squaresoft.

Another piece of evidence supporting my hypothesis that reviewers are idiots.
I didn't think it was very much like Diablo either. Diablo kicked ass. Dungeon Siege was. . . well, it was fun for a while, but i never even finished it. It just got really old after a while. Quite boring.

I can't think of too many RPG players that would disagree with you. Final Fantasy all but defines the genre.

Three questions:
(a) Budget or Full-Price?
(b) Is your PC up to scratch for playing the latest games?
(d) Where exactly are you? Some of the better compilations of old games are released unevenly...

One other reccomendation I would have for you is Europa Universalis II. Alot of people on this board like this game. IMO it is the best game ever made. I don't know if there is any better historical simulator out there- and it combines alot of the elements of RTS and TBS. It's a really great game, and especially if you like history it is good. Check out the reviews on it.
"RTS: Total Annhilation. As far as I'm concerned, this game is the benchmark for the genre. The company that made it is now out of business, but it can still be found in $10 jewel case format. Try to get the expansions, because most if not all 3rd party mods (and there is a neverending supply of those) require it."
Wrong, Starcraft is the benchmark for the Genre. It is such a good game, even now Starcraft: Battle Chest is the 10th best selling game out there, and there are still tons of people playing SC on battle.net. However, the thread starter has Tassadar in his name, which IIRC is a character from Starcraft- so he probably already has Starcraft. And if you liked Starcraft, you have reason to trust in Blizzard and get Warcraft III.
