not to speak about all the cities. is too much expected to have "köln" instead of "cologne" or "münchen" instead of "munich"?

is it too much to ask? no, it isn't.
you have an editor. use it. that's what it is for.

that's not my point.
ignorance shouldn't be supported. people could learn historical and geographical things with civilization, why not teach it to them properly?
btw: changing every single mod i try and test would be too anoying. i just do the 3-4 most (to me) important things...

Its not ignorance its western tradition. In the west countries and cities have different names in different languages. In English Germany is called Germany, in French its called Allemand. I've never understood WTF that's about. If the Germans call it Deutschland that's what everyone should call it. But that's not what we do. Firaxis was just doing the same thing everyone else does.

As a person that values historical accuracy a lot, I want to add two things to this discussion:
- first, complexity. Civ 3 is a game . Making it completely historically accurate, would be impossible to achieve and it would make the game unplayable
- second, fun. Imagine a game that is completely historacally accurate. Every game would be identical, and the outcome would be exactly the same. That wouldn't be much fun, now would it? Much of the fun in playing Civ III is based upon the fact that you can change history!!!
All I'm saying is that Civ III cannot and should not be a history book.
However, where complexity and fun do not prevent it, I think a game like Civ III should be as accurate as possible from a historical point of view. This means that I can live with Hannibal as the leader of the Cartaginians (although it would be better if they named him general and his people Phoenicians), though I have serious problems with Abe Lincoln and the Americans in 4000 BC (IMO it would be more fun to have the Americans proclaim their independence at some point in the game - bring back the concept of civil wars!!). Other examples are easily given.

accordning to legends, rome was founded by two guys (romulus, remus) razed by wolves ... maybe greek wolves?
|
Romulus and Remus were descendants of Aeneas. Aeneas founded a city in Southern Italy after his home city was destroyed.... by the Greeks. Aeneas was one of the defenders of Troy.

I'm not participating in this argument, but it's katerina (or ekaterina/yekaterina for extreme accuracy) not katarina
Most of these changes can be made in the editor btw

Firaxian idiocy, eh? Well...perhaps then it would make everyone be all the more pleased if they simply abandoned the Civilization series right now, then. The constant jumping of Firaxis for how it chooses to make the game is rather tiring. If you do not like how it's made, then don't buy it.
