In a game with a random outcome of combat you can never be sure. Nevertheless, I use the archer rush in nearly every game of mine and fail to take my objectives rarely. Never have seen a complete disaster. Btw, I attack with 5 archers/2 spears stacks only, so we already have 1 spare archer with us.
As for hit hard: All we need is to take one city, (auto-)raze one and get one for peace. For a civ with 5-6 cities this is hard enough. I don't want us to finish America off.
Not yet, that is.

Well we should simply declare war when it is convenient, and it would be a little bit clumsy if we have to stop trunchat for, even though I never attend it. So I´m voting Yes, they can declare war whenever they feel like it, presuming that they will do it in such a gentlemanly fashion that no reputation damage will occur.
While we have agreed upon the cold-blooded tactic of oscillatig war. I do believe that it would be prudent to take more than a single city. We should take control of at least 50% of their domain, not cultural border, but living and breating cities. Of course all this will be decided once we begin our war with the Americans.

They may have voted, but for this the force we sent is by far not enough. We'd need at least twice as much, rather more. And the effect would be zero, as before we could settle the achieved land with our own settlers, the Germans and French would have claimed it with theirs. Another reason is, if we wipe them out, we won't get any advantage from peace treaties, like free cities and techs. I don't think, that the people here are not smart enough to take these godsent gifts.
We shall finish off America and fulfill the people's will, when the time has come. For now, when we have taken our objectives, I'm pretty sure, the people will let us make peace.

Well, I for one say if we are going to lose the war, then may the banana put us out of our misery sooner rather than later
But I also doubt we'll lose, worst case we'll only manage to take and hold one city, before we hit a stalemate. -Now just don't make me eat those words banana dice god

I trust the FAM and SMC with the licence to kill when the Rubicon is crossed or when the iron is hot.
My trainee archers (straight out of my highly successful schools ) have itchy trigger fingers and wanna lay the Smack Down! on some candy asses.
Cry havoc and release the hounds....

Is this poll still valid: Should I allow a Sneak attack that will hurt Reputation?
If it is, let's remember to abide by its results which were 69.84% (44 citizens) said no.

If we lose the war the game will still be fun. We can escape to the island and try to re-build. And if we really lose then we can re-start and try again hopefully with a better starting location.

The death of the war would not be the death of Apolytonia. Our great leader banana has chosen to valiantly stay home during the military campaign.

We should face the war with blind acceptance, withtout thinking of a grim future.
Our future is bright, people !

The allmighty civilization calculator states that:
Vet archer vs Vet spearmen (fortified in a town)
gives a 34% chance of killing the defender
Vet archer vs Vet spearmen (fortified in a walled town)
gives a 20% chance of killing the defender.
Best case scenario they have 2 spears in an unwalled city.
Even without cumulative damage we'd probably take them out.
Worst case scenario they have 3 spears in a walled city.
Here all we need is for each archer to take 2 HP off a spear before dying which is probable although if anyone of their spears survives more than two archer attacks he will gain a HP and we'll be screwed.
(Assuming all AI spears are vets which they may not be.)
Overall my 8-ball says we're going to win but even if we get wiped out straight away we still have a chance

AI spears will be regulars, lest they have been in contact with barbarians. They don't build barracks quite so early. And they almost NEVER bild walls.

Reworked odds:
Vet archer vs Reg spearman (Fortified in a town)
gives a 51% chance of killing the defender.
lol
Out manned and outgunned
Even if we lose the first 3 archers we'll still "probably" win the battle.
In my humble opinion you can warm up the barbeque for some burgers.
