Re-Name your unit
I was assaulting an Iroquois city playing the Romans. It was just when a Cavalry Unit broke in, a Leader appeared, and then, a new window asking me how to name the victorious unit.

My question is: How can I get to re-name my units? What are the conditions? It happens only when the unit is victorious and produces a Leader? (It was the first time I ever saw this so I was really surprised and didnt understood it at first)

_Many thanks for your answer_

You can only rename an elite unit that produces a great leader.

No. Unless you create a scenario via the editor. Then, I think you can place units and name them.

This feature has been introduced with the 1.29f patch only.

So if your infantry made a leader you could call it the elite second division or something like that?

"So if your infantry made a leader you could call it the elite second division or something like that?"

I named mine Grey Wolf Regiment. Had a nice ring to it. Seriously the reason that the rename option appears is so you can keep track of your elite units that generated the leader. Because these units can't generate another GL. It was hassle to try to keep track of those elite units that had generated leaders before the latest patch.

I once named a stack of Panzers "Hitler's Sex Toys", & they went on to destroy many a city, it was hilarious when I was drunk at 3AM yesterday. but it's still pretty funny!

I think Iskander was referring to the fact that it only took 8 days for someone to name a unit "Hitler's Sex Toys"...

Oh, and btw - even if he had meant it for you, it's not exactly the world's worst insult is it? And it certainly doesn't give you the right to flame the way you did. So there

Be careful re-naming!

I deal with many pop-ups in the game by pushing the "O" option - I did this with my first opportunity to rename a unit under 1.29f -- in this case a horseman. He was renamed "Horseman." On at least 4 or 5 subsequent occasions during the game, when I would right-click on my "unit storage city" to get a drop down of units there - I would see this damn "Veteran Horseman" unit and wonder why I hadn't already upgraded him to cavalry - which I then proceed to do by waking him, etc. . . . . only to see that "Horseman" was in fact a cavalry named Horseman.

Many a wasted mouseclick (and regularly failing memory) and now I generally content myself with the "*" to denote leader generating units and click on the "X" for the re-naming pop-up.

I guess so

As for the topic. If they have gone this far, they could have also introduced naming of individual units at your choice, like CtP 2... works almost the same way, not too much of programming, if they've done what's done. A minor wish for PtW.

The renaming of the elite units is pretty snazzy and a step in the right direction. Next up on the wishlist: Landmark naming.

Personal preference, I suppose. Both are desirable, don't get me wrong. But I'd rather have the ability to name important mountain ranges or seas than individual units at the moment. I'd prefer to memorialize the site of a Waterloo rather then the 13th Rifle division.

I think it'd be cool to have your empire broken up into regions. It'd have no effect on gameplay, but it'd be a nice touch.

It's a new feature with 1.29f.

Note to Self: It always helps to read the thread before sharing an observation that has already been discussed.

You think i over reacted? Maybe i did, but i dont regret my answer to something that at first made me VERY pissed off. Like you probably dont know.
Anyway, People (including me) should be careful with their postings, and It would have been better if i just had ignored it all.

Boy, I hope you werent implying that im some kind of a pig with that comment. Because if you were, your act was no different than mine.

You're missing the point - Iskander's comment wasn't aimed at you. So you were wrong to flame him, and even if he had been talking about you, it was a mild comment in that context anyway. So i see no justification for what you did.

Don't tell me you're gonna start on miccofl

I'd like to be able to name all my armies. Like the 2 armies (now 1 in beta2 version) you get at the start of Vel's Alamo scenario.

Naming ships would be nice too.

If you could change names throughout the game that would be even better! Then I could give a unit a rank (starting with something low) and everytime a it wins a battle I would promote it!

Thats probably the one feature I miss from CTP2 the most

In a recent conquest game played as the Aztecs, I was afforded ample opportunity to name my units. Just coming up with Aztec-esque monikers added a little bonus frivolity to the game, with names like:
"The Feathered Serpent Brigade,"
"The Obsidian Knife Division," and
"Jaguar Company."
I dunno - maybe I'm just easily amused, but I really liked this little added creative touch to the game. The challenge stems from creating culture-specific titles that hint at authenticity.

...On second thought, perhaps I've been staring at the monitor for too long.
