yeah, i'm still in.
Thanks for moving me.
I'm now degaussing the rules.
I might be able to extract them from some scenarios, esp. @cosmic.
I did mess up with the rules badly, esp. naval units. (introduced a Man of War, and moved back frigate to caravel time)

Maud'Dib, why can't you download the file from the site? The full address of the saved file is http://www.stusdomain.org.uk/Succession/Succession/Knitting_Circle/Imported_Files /akc500b.sav ; is there some reason why you can't get the file off the internet?
[edit]Never mind, I didn't notice that DaveV had already emailed the file to you. Still wondering why you couldn't get it from the site, though.

Yes, I did get the save from the e-mail.
As to WHY I couldn't get it from the site. Haven't got the foggiest.
Every time I tried, my screen would just fill up in the upper left-hand corner with these little boxes in some form of undecypherable code.

Ah. Sounds like your browser was trying to open the .SAV file, instead of downloading it. Perhaps you are using Netscape?
In any case, you can probably get around this by, instead of left clicking on the link to the file, right click on it, and then choose the "Save Target As" (or Netscape equivalent) to force the browser to download save the file instead of trying to open it in the browser window.
That's my guess as to what was happening, anyway. The reason you'd be seeing weird boxes is because SAV files are binary (non-text) files.
I had thought that "Maud'dib" didn't look quite right, but I guess I was too lazy to go back to my old copy of Dune and check it out.

That's strange.
Look at my two posts above.
The old one has my location as Minneapolis, Minnesota. I actually live in Pennsylvania.
It should read--Of the Known Universe.
Hmmm... how the hell did that happen???

I know that I haven't posted in awhile but I've been watching the progress and am still interested in playing. johnmcd, when you are done please email the file to me. I think I'm next on the list. I tried to following the link posted above to the .sav file but my browsers try to read the file instead of downloading it.

skrobism, this is a Netscape issue. As I mentioned above, don't left click on the file. Instead, right click on the file and choose "Save Link As" to save the file to your hard drive.
Either do that, or swith to IE, which has no problem knowing that this type of file should automatically be downloaded and not opened.

I am sorry, kc... bob, but I must apologise for HsFB lack of knowledge of the English Language. You see he has the brains and wit of a rather small, brown, dead slug and his progress in class is comparable to the distance travelled by an asthmatic ant with a heavy shopping bag.

Can someone send me the save if its my shot? I didn't seem to have it when I tried to play last night. You can send to any, or preferably all of these three. I have checked the web site but I thinks the Gits have still been too busy.

John McD, Muad'Dib, everyone - sorry about the unholy c*ckup! Muad'Dib's forename is Paul and so he signed his e-mail and brainless chump here trying to do everything too quickly thought it was Paul vdb and therefore not current. Sorry again - save game now sent to all four of johnmcd's three e-mail addresses.

Thank you Gits, I now have the save.
Whist I acknowledge the above is a typo, you will note that one of the addresses is John Gooch's who I will be seeing after work and where I will actually be executing the game from in order to keep things moving as I won't be home till much later.
I can hardly wait

I don't know how many of you noticed but the first succession game has reached it's conclusion. It was a great victory for Apolyton and the most fun I've had in ages. I do have a suggestion for future games, though.
At some point, I'm not sure where, the number of moves might want to be reduced to around 5 per turn. I would suggest two reasons for this. The first is that in my last turn, I only took 8 moves before passing it on. I was absolutely running amok amongst the AI and was actually accomplishing too much on my watch.
The second reason is that for those of us prone to verbositiveness in our recaps, 5 moves would be much easier upon which to espouse.
Any thoughts?
