Golden Ages occur either when a civ's UU win's a battle (many civs have early UUs), or sometimes when they complete a Great Wonder that is related to their culture. Those are the only ways a GA can occur.

Ok! I usually play the Romans and find that they happen somewhat early in the game. Sometimes after building The Art of War

The romans are Militaristic and Commercial.
they will get a Golden ageby doing ay of this:
- Legionare wins a battle
- Finishing a Militaristic Wonder (Sun Tzus is one)
- Finishing a Commercial Wonder (Colossus, I think?)

The Colossus is Expansionist and Religous.
Commercial Wonders: - Great Lighthouse
- Magellan's
- Smith's
- UN
Militaristic Wonders: - Great Wall
- Sun Tzu's
- Leo's
- Universal Sufferage
- Manhattan Project
So as the Roman's, building the Lighthouse and Great Wall would give a early GA. Far more likely to get it with the UU though.
