On the picture above the snow picture, you can clearly see there's two different roads (or take a look at this article's pictures...here you can also see that highways can be built both over the ground and on the ground... also the highways are different sizes, on those picture, the highways are 3 lanes, while on an ign.com video they have 2 lanes highways...)
On ign.com they also have a video were they upgrade the street to road
Btw, when building/upgrading a road/street you should be able to see workers do the job... Though I haven't seen this in any video yet, since the quality of those videos are is too low...

Well spotted. There seem to be several different pavement styles too. I did some rummaging around and found references to each housing tile now being 1x3 so each house will be attached to the road and come with a back yard or other feature until an area is ready to convert into a big tower block.

Just a side note:
As Maxis said they cancelled SimVille, they said the reason was: "It wasn't as fun as our standards require" (or something like that), but it seems like the real reason was, all the good parts of SimVille was put into SimCity 4...

Looks like I've uncovered a few SimCity fans here.
SC4 does sound great.
ADG: Those chalked bodies are a great way to show crime, although I couldn't really see that in the picture you linked to. The chalk marks put you on edge when you come across them in RL, though. Anybody else ever come across that?
Solver: Only one way to see whether I need a victory condition to motivate me. I suspect that I do.

SC games normally come with a handful of scenarios which have clear victory conditions and these dats the net is bound to spawn more. You normally need to have a pretty good grip on the sandbox mode before you stand a chance at the missions though. I tend to set myself my own victory conditions, like having the biggest expanse of working seaport, airport with the most runways or largest population I can manage using only 1 tile wide residential districts.

Has anyone noticed this picture:
This picture shows how the road/street interacts, looks really great... and it also looks more realalistic, compared to the old road style...

I love Sim City! I spent days and months in Sim City 2000. Arcologies were great!
BTW, I was very disappointed with SC3000, I expect the best for SC4 (day and night, etc...) but a good thing to include in the game is history evolution, from the dense walled medieval cities to the actual. Is by far more interesting than the actual american city building (this is, huge skyscrappers with an extensive small houses ring area).
Also, a great new disaster could be a war.
Final Note: In SC2K a fire starts when an airplane crashes with a tall building

And does anyone like sports?
How about baseball?
Or golf?
Or forget it all and go to the fair.
Everything I see makes me want this game.

I'd also like to spend some time at the farm
Damn nice pictures
Now the question is: Can my computer even run the game? With all these details...I hope they'll make some demo or something, so I don't spend tons of money on a game I can't run...

I am so excited. It is going to be great.
I hope that golf and the fair are things that you can build. That means there will be tons of different buildings and things for your cities. I would assume the farm is light industry but I guess we will find out this fall.

Even though SimCity 3000 has some compatibility issues with my computer, I think I should get this game just because it looks so cool.

I don't hope so, since the rest of europe gets the UK version... If they make the UK version to have the people driving in the wrong side of the street, then there's no doubt I'll download the (US) warez version (But still buy the game)...

Sim City was a great game for me. It was a first game to really interest me - in times when I had atari only and I could play it jsut at firends or on holidays with my family.
Unfortunatelly, the game was too quick to be solved, later it was getting tedious a bit... Al was going too well... And the map was too small - it's a bit better in SC 3000, but somehow it didn't make me build magnificent cities like in
SC2000, of which all my great cities such as Eupatria,
Edirne and Glupolek...
Streats of Sim City sucked.
nevertheless, I think it is one of teh best games ever.
Oh, i didn't liek the thing that You couldn't build on slopes.
Eventually it was all ending in a completely flat map for me,
as destroying a half of your city wasn't anything problematic.
I think that if You destroy sth, You should pay for the land again - that would be better.

Here's a quote from the SimCity4 site, about the release date:
Quote:
|
Maxis is moving the launch of SimCity 4 and The Sims for the PS2 to January 2003. We know you're looking forward to both games and that this might be a disappointment. You should know that both titles are looking great and are a blast to play. Moving them to the beginning of next year will give us the opportunity to do a little extra fine-tuning and polishing of the games. We'll also be revamping SimCity.com and posting the most up to date information regarding both games on our websites. Thanks for your continued support and be sure to visit TheSims.com and SimCity.com for the latest details.

Hmmm...now I have more time to get some money, to be able to upgrade my computer

It's nice to see that they're being serious about putting out a serious and in good working order product. So many companies just post so many patches...
