Whatcha playin'?
Me?? I came across Age of Wonders [1] in the close-out bin for a mere $4.95. It's the best $4.95 I ever spent.
For those who haven't played AoW, it's obviously inspired by Masters of Magic, but it's even better! Your wizard/king can leave his tower and ride around the map. The dragons are called dragons (and not drakes) and look like dragons.
Every once and a while the AI does something stupid (like sending 25 units to attack one of my walled cities, but including no battering ram ). However, I understand that problem has been corrected (and maybe even overly corrected) in AoW2.

Yeah, I heard the AoW2 AI is significantly better, maybe even too much so
I could take a walled city with no ram I generally did not use rams, they are so slow.

Bastards... it will be another 4 days, 12 hours, 22 minutes until I fly home and I can actually play something. But I get home late, so it won't be until next morning that I play

What? You don't need to have battering rams, catapults or giants to attack walled cities in AoW2?
Actually flying units and heroes with wall climbing work too.
In Aow the computer sometimes send in huge mob with just one battering ram to attack my cities. All I need to do is to concentrate on the ram to take it out before it breaches the wall. That's great fun watching a huge mob wandering around outside unable to attack your small garrison

-All my heroes in AoW had wall climbing sooner or later, and i built forces with lots of ranged units and wall climbing and flying ones. The ranged units could fire over the wall to soften up the defenders, the hero and flying units would finish the job. Heroes could also just use high level magic to achieve the job.

My AoW strategy involved a lot of fast and/or flying units and guerrila tactics.

I found AoW2 very hard to get into. It has "improved" in ways I don't like so its hit the back of the shelf while I concentrate on NWN.

- Only one campaign and it seems to be leading you through the magic skills in a set order. Not as flexible as AoW where you could not only be good or evil but take different skills/magic each time.
- Movement rates are now so high and hexes less easy to judge thanks to the 3d effects that you can't tell whether you are in range of an enemy force or where A will intersect B.
- I found the city management and combat less intuitive at first glance.
- The first scenario map was full of bizarre teleporters.
Like I say these were observations formed after only a couple of hours play. When I decide to go back to it and get past the first scenario I may revise my opinions.

Teleporters are bad... high movement can be either good or bad, depending on sight radius. It might complicate my guerilla warfare strategy or it might simplify it.

SMAC/SMAX
CtP
then sometimes a RPG of some kind or another... started to replay Chrono Cross but then realized I was too tired to really appreciate the story so I'll be starting over probably... but who knows.
Would like to get some more games for my GBA too... *wishes had more money.*
