best buy ever
i was just wonderin, what games do you gammers consider your "best buy ever" either for a good price, great replay value.... Mine is civ 2 for like 8 bucks. I dont play it as much as civ 3, but as far as bang for your buck, this one ie the best.

Bought Diablo II for ten dollars - cheapest new game I ever bought. Would say Civ I, but I never purchased it.

-- Diablo I for 10 bucks.
-- Civ II CiC and FW for free. My social studies teacher lent me the CDs long enough to install both.

Legit purchases?
Hmm, I say Railroad Tycoon. Bought it for like $30 but my roommate and I played it to death for a year.

I'd say Secret of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, free with a PC Gamer magazine.
I got Railroad Tycoon 2 Platinum Edition for $20, but I haven't played it. I've gotten too many games recently.

I know that situation, MB. Having a game which you cannot play (yet) is a pain...

Searching for good deals on games is one of my hobbies:
Civ2 ToT: $10
Railroad Tycoon II Platinum: $7
MOO2: $7
Zeus: $8
East Front II: $1
West Front: $1
Medieval Masters Collection (AoW, Tzar, Darkstone): $10
Majesty: $3 (opened it up and found the expansion inside as well--bonus!)
Rising Sun: $6
Fifa 99: $1
Microsoft Sports Pack: $20
Chessmaster 7000: $8
SMAC: $5
EU & EU II: $10 each
Sim City 3000: $8
Sim Golf: $8
Call to Power II: $10
All of these were store purchases. I was simply at the right place at the right time, quite often!

I'd have to say civ2 in terms of time spent playing vs. dollars spent, even though I spent close to $160 total for all five incarnations of the game.

My best buy ever has to be a second hand copy of a practically unknown playstation game known as 'star ocean 2'. I only bought it cause it was the only game in the second hand shelf in electronic boutique that i could afford after buying a couple of other games.(it cost a tenner). It turned out to be one of the best rpgs ive ever played(just behind final fantasy 7)

MoO2 for something like $15, on a pure bang-for-buck analysis.

it's got to be a tie.
4 pack with Civilization, Colonization, Master Of Orion, and XCom: UFO defense, for 20$. got me lots of hours on end.
tied with:
Civ2 for 12$.
I'm not sure exactly which way it leans, nut it's definitely between those 2.

Value? Imperialism II; I got a free copy from the developers.
Quality? TA (cheap), WBC2 (overpriced + free second copy in a contest), Civ2 (overpriced), EU (overpriced), and EU2 (overpriced).

The Civ II gold edition (everything from MP to the editor feature in one game) or the HOMM collection.
I personally think the collections are always a good buy or at least most of the time. You get good games (mostly with all the expansion packs) to a very favourable price. So the best advice is: just wait a bit and you save a whole bunch of money.
