Not that I should be giving advice, but:
Don't take yourself seriously, or other people seriously, when you're making a crack.
Play to stereotypes.
Use of randomness is good also, when used in proper amounts...

Smileys are to be used strategically. Lay off them a bit.
And for Christ's sake, pull that rod out of your ass!

yes, smiles can be used like punch lines, but like punch lines they require timing. Also, otomatopea (SP?) can be used to great success, like BOOOM or .... er.... uh....; stuff like that. Also watching the Simpsons is a great source of humor for any purpose .
Kman
EDIT: Seinfeld is also a great source - look for Kramer in particular

A humor I excessively use is the 'understatement' type of humor. Like giving Mr. Muscle 2001 a 4 pound weight for his birthday. Or explaining to Asher what a motherboard is.
Dunno how it fits you tho.

I guess the guy on Sprockets doesn't count.
Hmmm...
German comedy is as oxymoronic as French Musical Taste and English Cuisine.

He counts only because the actor who plays him is Canadian. As I'm sure you know.
(I own the "Best of Mike Myers" SNL DVD)

Notice, MrFun, that Asher and I are strongly playing to stereotypes. Take notes.

Start a thread like this and don't post/look in it again.
That's pretty funny.

Um, ok:
1) play to stereotypes
2) use smilies sparingly
3) use Simpsons and Senifield as sources
4) and be able to laugh at myself (started doing that, with this thread)
