Demo Game?
We've had the Civ2 and Civ3 democracy games...why not an AC one?

Interesting proposal. I bet you could find some people to get involved; whether there'd be enough to actually get one started, I don't know.

Okay, I got it. Should we keep the same constitution or adapt it to SMAC ?

Adapt. It not at least change the titles and terms to be more appropriate toward SMAC/X
Of course, has someone toyed with the idea of a multi-player democracy game with two 'nations' (in our case, factions) where the players would participate in either one or the other, and where there would be two 'presidents' playing the game instead of one?

My bad!
Nevermind, I just answered my own question after visiting the Civ II multi-demo game. So, is anybody else joining or is this going to be a four member probe action?

so, is it only the president (or provost, chairman, prime function, etc.) who does the actual playing? the other people just sit here at the forums and give suggestions on what to do? i dont really want get into something i'll have to be playing SMAC constantly for.
Edit: i was thinking, would we need to make a custom faction, or just use the PKs? SMAC or SMAX?

For a start, I think we'd better wait till other people join the game...

Well, we need more people to join to get this thing off the ground, but that doesn't mean we should just sit by and do nothing until more people show up. Why don't we start working on changing some of the terms to be more smac/x oriented?
Instead of President, I suggest we use the appropriate title of the faction we'll be playing (i.e. Brother if UNP, Chairman if Hive, et cetera)
Assistant or Alpha Talent (i.e. Jeneba or Ota Kyi) instead of the Vice President.
And so on and so forth, what do you think Pander?

i'd guess transcend, maybe huge map of planet, and maybe just change the UNP to Apolyton Forumers:
-1 efficiency-cannot communicate verbally
+1 talent every 4 citizens-Games make people happy
Double votes for planetary governor and supreme leader-->insert legitimate reason here<--
etc.

How about something more artistic?
The Citystates of Apolyton?
The Apolyton Alliance?
The Apolyton Republic?
or heck, even "The Centauri Republic" (with appologies to Babylon Five)

Skilled at Courtly Intrique. After all, part of the fun of a Democracy Game IMHO is the semi-roleplaying aspect taking place on the forum of political maneuvering.
So, I think that puts our numbers at seven. For those with experiences at playing the civ demo games, approx. how many active members are needed to run a successful game?

No, I would say Peacekeepers. The Peacekeeprs can go in any direction. UoP is builder, Spartan is warmonger, but peacekeeper (despite the name) can go in any direction.

So everyone wants huge maps? You do realize then it might take ages before we meet other factions and see some decent military action. If I want to play a pure builder game and don't want to be bothered by other factions, I choose huge maps as well. But I don't think just staying in your own territory and building up your infrastructure will make for an interesting democracy game.
Disclaimer: I have never played a demo game before.

I agree. I think a standard map would be nice. Because then, we would have decent military, diplomatic, and builder action all in one. Would make for a nice demo game.

I've just joined the Civ 3 Democracy game, and have not played a democracy game before that.

Ah, the heck with it, I'd join too. I suggest standard-sized map. If we're good enough, then by all means go Thinker or Transcend (if I want to run for President I should lobby for a lower difficulty level ).

I think a Standard Map would be good.
To get started...we'd probably need about 15, from what I know...
and I'd personally prefer we use SMAC, but only because I don't have SMAX, and then I couldn't hold office
perhaps we should create a signup thread, and start keeping record of who's interested..?

Yeah, I think we should use original SMAC too. Who knows, we might even get a separate forum for this eventually!

I'd like to add my voice to those who have said we should use standard SMAC rather than the expansion. While I love the Data Angels, this game should be open to as many people as possible.
I also think that we should vote on issues like map size, what faction to select, and difficulty level.

I'd probably would not be able to join, but here go some ideas:
Standard SMAC should be used. Keep the game open, as Adam said. Besides, the original seven are well balanced.
Map: standard map of planet. Makes for a classic game and a more interesting one (huge maps would take too long to find your enemy, tiny maps would turn everything into a carnage).
Polls to vote on the most important issues, like what rules would be on/off, what faction to play, what would be the government positions, how would be the constitution etc.
And pray for a separate forum: it makes things easier.

I also agree playing SMAC instead of SMAX
But we'd rather play on a big map of planet
