With a 2x movement unit, we can do some major exploring. A 2x also means it makes more sense to explore east (plains and grass) rather than west (mountians, which is what I voted).
Now we can keep the 1st warrior either at Melfort, or use him to provide protection to our 2nd settler and defend the city when it's built.
123john, I suggest waiting to get some direction from others before you continue.

I say our horses go east.
Our settlers will go north to look for a good spot for them to live.

I haven't been following the treads b/c i didn't know when things were going to pick up. I was wanting to know, Mr. President wheather we are to the north or south of the map, I see tundra and think given position that we must be N so I suggest a SW exploration path to begin with.
EDIT, meaant SE exploration path

A horse is a good exploration unit at the beginning ! go east (or north) and avoid mountains and hills !

Direction doesn't matter. Move the horse so that it gets the full 2 moves each time. It's the amount of territory you uncover, not the direction that matters.

I don't think we can allow the president to just play as long as he wants without consulting the people.

In that case, the President may play by exploring by horseman in choiced direction (along plain or grassland), researchiong by the path to monarchy and buiding warrior then settler then even temple ... up to meeting another civ or ground boudaries or new hut, ie an event meaning stopping to consult people about the way to procede !
