Dear SMC,
I wonder about the risk of massive french spearmen upgrading to pikemen. I can't see any thread speaking of this issue.
Do we have a plan with such a scenario? Will our valliant swordsmen not fail if they have to deal with these "modern" warfare units the French could oppose to us ?
I think this could influence our decision to declare war or not, couldn't it ?

Au revoir, mes amis! Les Francais, ils seront tres, tres mort. Quand nous les tuerions, leur sang tomberont sur la terre.

Please don't try to speak french, american people :
"Cette langue [le Français] est trop belle pour être prononcée par une bouche anglophone [peut être remplacé par : tapée avec un clavier qwerty]", R. Barjavel (je crois).
Voted yes, maybe this war could strengthen us if France has no pikeman.

Yes Uber,
Stay, run again, and again. Remain SMC forever, that was your original plan, right? If all the reforms take place, it will be a new government, that means the three term rule starts over, no?
Seriously, I have complimented you enough over your terms. I believe I once called you a perfect example, even. Stay on, take a second shot at Lincoln (hopefully) and then you can go and remind Joan who you are again... All pending aproval of the people, of course.

Hey, if you call what I said butchering, then what does that make your pathetic rendition of ... well, I should probably not start a flame war. One thing first however, how did you use the accents? Not using accents really threw me off. I would appreciate very much knowing how to include them. And the odds of the AI upgrading any spearmen to pikemen are very low, as they would need a barracks to do it, and most likely don't have one.

I think it's worth making a note of the objectives of this war again before we start.
(Taken from, War acadamy: SMC Plans, 925BC, the French front.)
- Capture the city of Paris
- Capture the city of Orleans
- Aquisition/capture of Rheims
- Aquisition/capture of Chartes
- Unimpeeded acces to the sub-continent
Is this correct or have the objectives changed?

Since when was France an empire? To be an empire, a nation has to possess conquered territories and peoples. We, for example, are an empire, as we conquered America.

Hmm... I don't think so... when Napoléon III declared himself as an Emperor, France didn't have conquered any territory since the fall of the First Empire.
I think the ruler of the country just has to say "now I am an Emperor and my country is an Empire"...

Well, lets look at the Romans.
if you consider the years around Caesar's death (his battles with Pompey, his assasination, the battle for power afterwards) as the period of Anarchy, and then when Octavious took power the begining of the empire, well, there werent any serious teritory gains inbetween those two events. But what did change (although not much) was how seriously the ruler listened to the Senate. Sure, Octavious (Augustus) listened alot, but he was a supreme ruler. An Emperor. He had the power to make decisions single handedly.
I think that is all that made Rome an empire, how it was ruled.
And i dont think it was because Rome had overseas territories that made it go towards an Empire. My memory from what ive read on Pre-Anarchy Rome is sketchy right now, but if my memory serves me, the new teritories before 100 B.C. (and thus before the social wars) didnt have that great an effect on the Republic, it was just lands far away that happened to have Romans taking care of them.
I think the Empire bit had a lot more to do with certain powerful people (the generals) growing much displeased with how the Senate was being conducted, and then the generals being displeased with each other, untill the One ruler system emerged... where there was still too much ambition and conflict on the inside, which could be one reason for the fall of the empire.. well, other than the eventual collapse of the wonderous Roman armies that were so victorius for so long and then sundenly weren't very well kept.

We aren't going to declare war right now. We're going to wait 10+ turns (IIRC, around 11 or 12) to declare war. By then, we'll have massed forces on their borders (a stack of archers and spearmen next to Orleans, and eight swordsmen next to Paris).
If Paris grows to size 6, we may end up attacking earlier, though (since its defense goes up).

It has. For example, Uber adjusted the plans to account for the presence of Rouen near our landing area for the swordsmen.
Here's the plans:
