Suggested new use for Great Leaders: Silver Age
As it currently stands, Great Leaders are good for two things: to create Armies, and to rush projects to completion (as they are the ONLY means for rushing a Great or Small Wonder). I would like to see a third use added: "Begin Silver Age". The Silver Age represents a Great Leader's ability to bring an era of great prosperity to a region.
Essentially, when a Great Leader enacts a Silver Age in a city, that city (and ONLY that city) gains benefits equivalent to what it would gain during your Civ's Golden Age--an extra unit of Commerce and Production in any worked square already producing same for a duration of 20 turns. Each city can have only ONE Silver Age, and if a Silver Age overlaps your Civ's Golden Age, then during the turns of the overlap the city will gain the benefits of BOTH (+2 Commerce and +2 Production).

It could be tweaked, I'd also like more leader uses.

Depends on the size of the city. Even a size 10 city would gain 200 shields in this time (assuming a shield on every square) and an equal amount of commerce. Enough to build certain wonders. Remember any city improvements in the city would also contribute to increasing the overall amount of shields/commerce produced. So you could easily end up exceeding the amount required to build a wonder and gain commerce too.

Hmmm, seems kinda weak for the use of a great leader.....maybe the effects should be increased....
But still, it sounds like a good idea

It could also be made to temporarily eliminate corruption in the city.

I like that idea. A city in Silver Age would experience NO corruption or waste OR unhappiness.

Sort of like a suped-up WLT*D, eh? And that city could also have a slight defense bonus (happy warriors are good warriors), and would be immune to culture flipping and propaganda while it's in the Silver Age.
Good ideas, although I'm not too fond of the name Silver Age.....meh

Sort of like temporarily having an extra capital city, with the no corruption. Could help you build up a border city with lots of potential (like an iron works city) or allow you to establish a productive city on a continent you might be invading. Would open up some interesting strategic options.

SwitchMoO: I chose the name "Silver Age" to relate it to your Civ's Golden Age since the benefits are similar. If anyone can think of a better name, then please suggest it.
As for your idea of increasing defense, that might be overbalancing, but the other stuff seems good. Here is what I envision currently:
1) +1 commerce and +1 shields in any square producing same
2) Zero corruption/waste
3) City is immune to subversion from culture / propaganda
4) City is immune to riots (unhappy citizens will not riot)
5) City produces double culture
Silver Ages will last 20 turns, and a city may have only ONE Silver Age.
DrFell: You seem to have grasped the use of Silver Ages exactly--it would be a strategic choice--do I use it in a large, built-up city in order to make lots of cash/science/culture and maybe speed up a Great or Small Wonder, or do I use it to build up a frontier city in a hurry?

Not sure about that one, but reducing corruption/waste during a 'Silver Age' is a good idea.

YES! An interesting choice: Do I rush a Forbidden Palace in my newly conquered territory, or do I opt for the 'no flipping' variant.

This is too unbalancing IMO. Give the city, say, 3 additional faces (like a second cathedral), but don't make hapiness management completely unnecessary.

+50% would be fine with me, but a culture bonus is nice.
Generally, I like the idea of 'Silver Ages' very much.
