The 500 rule
Is it still the rule?
http://apolyton.com/forums/showthrea...threadid=58266
Seemed like it would never end.

They probably didn't want a second thread for it. Can't say I blame them.

I've been busy for the last 24 hours, didn't notice it until now. It happens
And it was closed "before" you started this thread

One of the Chiron Chronicle discussion threads over in AC-Fiction went up to about 750 once. Of those, about 450 were made by one person, who used the "Reply With Quote" feature for every post above his.

Yes, I knew it was closed so I asked now. Didn't want to promote it while it was going
Some... interesting goings on in there.

If by "interesting things", you mean "weird, evil, godless abominations", then I agree.

The circumcize my kid thread was very interesting, someposters posting thoughtful factual things while others just said he must look like his dad so i had them mutilate it .

There were about 50 interesting and thoughtful posts, and the remaining 700 consisted of posts like these-
1- "I'm circumcised/not circumcised and I'm OK. Therefore this must be true of humanity in general."
2- "I spend lots of time looking at other men's tackle and I've noticed...."
3- "I hate you. You smell."

Of course, if anyone could make posts really really REALLY quickly, they could get themselves a custom avatar in just one thread...
...oh yeah, and then get permabanned as soon as the mods noticed.
The lyrics threads in the OT have frequently been closed when they got above 500 posts. Don't know when the current one is due to close...

It's the less visited forums that get the post counts above 500.
There were three US bashing threads in Civ 3 - Civilizations that were running concurrently. They were also the only threads being posted in at the time. It was like an echo, the same arguments in the three threads at the same time. Some people took it to an extreme and copied/pasted their exact same post from one thread into the other
They all got to around 700 posts before they were noticed. Still only one was closed. The other two weren't closed until a week later.

Indeed.
But you could still utilise it by replying to the thread with all those 500 DL's and reply to all those 500 posts by saying something "interesting" or "nice to hear that I'm not the only one."
Example:
Poll question: Do you use the Civilopedia?
Alternatives: yes, no
alva848: And please also tell us why you prefer to/not to use the Civilopedia.
Minx: I voted yes. Don't ask why. Err... do I even know it?
alva848: Interesting. Thanks for the vote!
Markox: I did that too! And why? I LOVE THE CIVILOPEDIA!
alva848: So do I.
rax: You do? Wow! M 2 LUV CIVPEE!!!!
alva848: Heh...
Danox: I disagree with rax and Minx. I have never seen anything as discusting as the Civilopedia. There's even entries about things like veteran status and the future!
alva848: Huh.
Solvex: I'm also a Civilopedia enthusiast. BTW, could someone tell me where I can buy a Civilopedia?
alva848: The Poly shop.
Grampox: I'd like to vote yes, but there's no box where I can drop my ballot. Could someone help me? Mods! Help!
alva848: Take a look in The All-Knowing Poly FAQ. P.S. Thanks for voting!
Snapcax: I refuse to vote as there's no banana split alternative. I want to vote at the bananas!
alva848: Creative; thanks!
DL usernames have nothing to do with any of the current Apolytoners.
