What are we going to do about September?
Since many of our citizens are students, when September comes, many of them may find themselves absent or inactive for a few weeks while they adjust to real-life demands (new schedules, moving, etc...)
I am not sure, but it seems to me this might be a big problem, especially considering that we are already having difficulty recruiting ministers and other officials.
Are there sufficient non-students to carry on the game?
If not, should we pause? or keep going? or what?
What should we do?
---
I myself will be losing my net connection in a few weeks as I move to a new city for work. I don't know when I'll get set back up (so I'll be retiring then - next Prez, start thinking of a nominee, there are plenty of good candidates out there).

I may not know what student workloads are like in the N hemisphere, but I have been in the second half of my Honours University year for 6 weeks now, and I am managing (despite a little lost sleep). I urge everyone to do their utmost to be here as much as they can - if I can do it, surely most here can also.

turnthreads, if thout out well, could become vital
if we stopped turnchats during weekdays all together, i could run for positions again easily, probably
i still wont this election tho.

I'll be fine in september. I'm just a lowly BS/MS with coop in 5 years of Computer Engineering at a institute of tech so I obviously have plenty of time!
Seriously though, if elected officials will just take small doses of things, there wont be any problem.
POST your official orders ALWAYS
CHECK on the msgboards every so often but don't LINGER.
It doesn't matter if you make it to the turnchats if your orders are posted.
Although I am only a justice *thunder*, I assure everyone that anyone can maintain any governmental position we offer.

Well, President may be a little difficult when we don't have a turnchat, but I'm sure I can handle it. Everyone else's should be OK, tho'.

When school starts for me, I should be fine for (maybe) a few weeks. After that, I may not be around at all.

Pray to the Banana. Goddamnit, I start high school next year, and my parents are actually thinking about CUTTING ME OFF FROM THE NET *shudders* to see if 'Poly has actually brought my grades down.

So I take it that if you are cut off you'll make sure your grades drop considerably.

No, I'm not that desperate for 'Poly. I'm going to one of (one of? probably THE) best high schools in the nation (only 400 from all of Northern VA and DC, the Silicon Valley of the East, get in each year), and I want to go to Annapolis for college, so I won't do ANYTHING to jeopardize that.

We'll survive. I did most of my online game playing while I was in college and even law school.
But for the sake of this issue it might be helpful if someone polled the populace to see how many are students.
On a somewhat related note I'll be on vacation in September from 7th to the 15th.

hmmm...since overall it would be somewhat on topic in this thread, i'll make an announcement here and now:
First and foremost, I am back from my vacation in Michigan. Unfortunately, that does not mean I can be very active here. My school starts the 22nd, but even until then I will not spend much time here. I have no more aspirations in the executive branch and I also plan to be more withdrawn from the DIA. However, I am insterested in spending the rest of my days here as a judge. Since it seems the elections are over though,. I guess I'll wait until september to run.

We had a similar situation in CFC (since we started in April). We had our turn chats at 7:00PM EDT, which was fine for those of us in school/work. Some did have to leave by 10:00PM EDT, though.
So, yes, it would cut down on the number of people who can play. The first 2 terms, we had a Swede who managed to stay up until 4:00am his time, then we had another person who worked the next term. Summer is the best, since most people aren't in school. What we did was have a Chain of Command. If the designated player couldn't play, it went down a list (like domestic, military, foriegn affairs, science, trade, culture, governors, etc.).
It rarely got any further than trade during the school year (mainly because I was at the chat most of the time ).

Like others have said, we won't need turnchats soon (if someone works out how turnthreads will work, at least), so it won't be a problem much longer.

I'll be around. And it seems that there's plenty of people, and enough candidates to allow contests in several positions.

Another one wants my job! Do you think it takes no time? Just all glory?
Try IE, or a nice ambassadorship.
