PTW preview on Gamespy
Check out this preview of PTW on Gamespy. Those who hate culture flipping will be happy: you can turn it off in PTW.

Aditional points that I found interesting:
Quote:
|
1. Rally points have been added, which means you can produce units and set a rally point to a certain location instead of a city.
2....the "stacking" of naval units, which allows units of different speeds to move together over long distance moves.
3. Concerning culture flipping - Morris added that fans tend to either love or hate this feature, so you'll be able to enable or disable it in the scenario editor.
|
![yeah right!](http://static.apolyton.net/forums/images/smilies/hm.gif) Reference culture flipping - it can be disabled in the editor....to bad it just couldn't be turned on/off through the normal game setup vice having to go through the editor to do it.
Great article! Thanks for the heads-up Nostromo.

Being able to turn off cultural flips will be good for some scenarios. For a modded standard game, I'm hoping that Firaxis has also included the option to fine-tune flipping (e.g. higher supression strength for military units).

the +++: PtW seems to be a good expansion pack, with nice polishing over an already good game.
the - - -: with a second disc, the excuse to avoid voiceovers and some in-game movies is over. Unfortunately not for the developers: so far no major graphical improvements, and no voiceovers coding.

They spend half a year making the opening movie to PTW, so I guess they can't make in game movies too at that speed.

Where are they "featuring" the Spanish and the Mongols? I can't find anything on the civ3 website. Is there somewhere else we can look?

when you have a stack of, let's say 8 tanks, press 'j' and the 'goto' mouse cursor appears. If you select a target, all 8 tanks will move to that spot.

this appears to be a whole new feature - its not just the ability to culture flip cities, which obviously is already there, but culture flip entire civs.
"As we continued looking at the editor, Morris touched on the ability to flip civs to your side via your civ's cultural status.... "If you're a major cultural power with a lot of libraries or wonders, things that generate a lot of cultures, next to a culturally weak civ, that civ might 'flip' to your side and defect."

My favorite part :

Morris talk about how far ahead of schedule the Play The World team is. They're taking the extra time not only to create an extra level of polish to the game
|
Maybe we'll see unit-trading as soon as PTW is out ? oh please Firaxis, pretty please.....

I couldn't help but laugh when I read Jeff Morris say there was a lot of fan interest in creating a dinosaur senerio. If there is so much interest then why haven't I heard anyone either here at poly or at CFC talk about it? Could it be that no one but Firaxis, who wants to bundle junk they already have, care about dinos?

they got some graphics left over from the dinosaur disaster game. That's why ![Big Grin](http://static.apolyton.net/forums/images/smilies//biggrin.gif)
Besides that, I think there are more civ players than on the poly and cfc forums. There are only about 5000 active people on the forums, while over 5000000 people bought the games. (games = plural = civ1,2,3)

This looks better and better! I really look forward to PTW! ![Big Grin](http://static.apolyton.net/forums/images/smilies//biggrin.gif) But tell me: do we have an exact (more or less at least... ![Wink](http://static.apolyton.net/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif) ) release date? I've heard "before christmes" but do we have any more?

All we know so far is October, and they're reaching beta right now: so I think they're gonna make that deadline ( end of October).

Lawrence of Arabia: There are screenshots on the site. Just click on the link that says "All Screenshots...".
jsw363: The new civs are listed in the article, and you can see them all in the "Player Setup" screenshot.
CyberShy: It is possible to move units of the same type as a stack, but AFAIK, we cannot use stack movement for different types of ground units together, even if they have the same movement rate. So the question is, did they add this for just naval units, or for ground units as well?
