You Know You Have Played SMAC Too Long When.....
I don't know has this been done before but here goes.
...You have a Dream where you are one of those onboard Unity. (in my Dream last night, there were beginning of the journey, the accident during it and landing to Chiron, everything.)
please continue.

... you point out that there's no chance in hell you *can* play too much SMAC. The idea is just absurd. It's like breathing too much, that is, impossible.

The really scary part is the dream problem happened to oen fo my friends. He played the game for 36 hours over 4 days and that night he started to dream about the game, no play the next day but still the dreams. He had to stop playing for a week for the dreams to stop.

. . . when you ask "Why doesn't Saddam just fork over the 32 energy credits and switch to Democracy? Not only would that get the U.S. off his back, it would improve his efficiency rating."

. . . you drop everything you're doing and log on to "the Virtual World". Everyone else, though, just sees you posting at Apolyton.

/me cheers Vlad
Thanks for the link TKG. I think there's a newer thread then that, but I could be wrong. Or was it the SMAC joke thread (loved that one too)?

Like there are any original threads around these days? Sixty thousand Middle East threads, a hundred and fifty-four thousand and ten "Civ3 is pathetic" threads, and this is the one you point out?

Adalbertus: And with any luck, she's got a Scottish accent as well?
I haven't played SMAC enough. Despite Miriam, I still find red hair attractive.
Btw, wasn't a redhaired individual considered a witch or otherwise collaborating with the dark forces in the Middle Ages? So Miriam's hair colour must be poking fun at this... and red hair is considered to be a subliminal sign of dominance, how appropriate for her.

Kass: No, a French (and brown eyes, but I prefer them anyway, and a lack of interest in me which I definitely don't prefer ).
I don't bother to look in current English translations of the Bible, but I think one may translate the hair colour of David to red (others translate to blonde). And certainly even the most crappy laser gun in Miriam's arsenal would have been taken as witchcraft in the Middle Ages.

BUMP!
You know you have played SMAC too long when...
....you lock the door to your room, and when someone knocks and asks what the heck you're doing there, you answer; "Please don't disturb me. I'm ascending to transcedence"

LOL that reminds me of a dream I had about two weeks after playing SMAC (This is btw)
I dreamt I was at a farm (never been to a farm in my life, so this dream is unusual for me) and I was sitting in the stable, trying SO HARD to ascend to transcendence! I just sat there crying my eyes out trying to ascend. Well, then I thought of something.
I can't remember exactly how, but I brought a menu up, clicked on Scenario editor, activated it, and enabled the ascent to transcendence victory. Afterwards, I turned into a big ball and began to float. Slow music began to play and people were crying, and then the dream ended.
So you know when you hav eplayed SMAC too long when you begin dreaming of transcendence.

Heh, I've often had dreams or dreamlike-states when I'm about to fall asleep where I can only move in the 8 general directions
(this is too, btw ) Your dream of sitting in a farm trying to ascend reminds me (in a "mixing games with reality"-sort of way) of a friend of mine IRL who skipped one of his Finnish classes, and when the teacher asked him about it later;
Teacher: Where were you yesterday?
He: Home
Teacher: Why?
He: I ran out of mana
Teacher: What?
He: I ran out of mana
Teacher: ...okay (goes away)
...and in order to not to make this post :
You know you've played SMAC too long when...
...You're always quite suspicious when walking outside at autumn time, with red leaves on the ground. In fact, you're very suspicious around anything red on the ground.

You know you've played SMAC too long when:
You start dreaming about being a member of a Cybernetic probe team infiltrating a Hive base (yes, it's happened...)
When you hear about starving nations you wonder why they don't just launch some Sky Hydroponics Pods
When your phoneline goes down you blame sunspots and start stapling everyone in sight
