How many bases do you usually have at MY 2150?
Before presenting my expansion policy for Director of Terraformation and Colonization, I would like to know from some people how many bases they usually have around MY 2150 on a huge map. I know of course it depends on many variables, but giving an average shouldn't be that hard. With that information, I will know if my preferred policy would qualify as extremely and thin expansionistic, or rather as more moderate.

Since I usually start building a new colony pod at base size 2 and not 3 (when waiting that long it would take forever to expand IMHO), I figure I would qualify as ultrathin-expansionist, but I just want to be sure.

Depends on how many rocky/fungus squares get in the way of my placement method, but usually anywhere between 7-15.

15? On Transcend level starting with 2 colony pods (and not three as in most PBEM games)? You have to show me someday how you manage to do that, even when there wouldn't be much fungus.

Would it suprise you to know I was talking about SP, starting with 0-1CP?

It's not often I'd manage 15 to be honest. That's the extreme end of my average, usually reached only with Jungle or multipule bases (Preferably at opposite ends of my expansion) with Rainy Nut bonuses/Planted on Nut bonuses. Just a strict 2 on the diagonal base placement really, pumping out CP's until doing so would ruin my chances to grab the early CP's.

I just did a quick test under the game conditions (Transcend/Huge Map of Planet/Look First/No Unity Survey/UNPK). I started in the SW by that inner sea area. Hive turned out to be right below, uncooperative as always ...

Annoying fungus luck, too, first 2 popped pods were mindworms, lost my independant scout...and the first couple of colony pods each lost about 3 turns crossing one tile of fungus . Oh well.

At MY2150, 8 bases, with 3 pods running around, 4 in production (1 of which is coming next turn), and 20 years away from two secret projects (bases with Rec Tanks/Rec Commons). I might miss the Merchant Exchange, because Deirdre's building that next. Yes, next - she is just going crazy (she built the WP in 2130 or so !!!).

I'm a rather "ultrathin-expansionist", too, I guess. Colony Pods everywhere early on, not too many terraformers (maybe 6 or so right now).
