City view!
Am I the only one around, who don't like the city view screen in Civ3?
It's boring, when every improvement/wonder, has a certain space in the city view: The bank is ALWAYS placed here, the Coloseum is ALWAYS placed there and so on. There's only very little difference between the cities.
I remember back in the Civ1 days, where the city views changed by every visit, but how about making a mix of Civ1 and Civ3 city view? Whenever a city improvement or a wonder is built, that building is placed in random place, but it's saved, so that building still is in that place, when viewing that city, while the same building is placed differently in a different city...
I don't know about you, but I really think this pre-set is ruining the city view. I remember back in the days, were I watched the city view several times each game, while I haven't checked the city view in Civ3 for some time now...don't think I have checked the city view this year...it was always the same...

it'd also be good if the city view actually reflected the terrain properly - rather than the standard templates it uses. It'd also be good to see the resource if a city is built on one. Also, if a city is built on a hill, that isn't reflected in the city view. And, no forgetting, it'd be good if cities actually looked like cities , i.e. more houses, more roads, signposts, etc.

Defently...It's hard to imagine a city with 3 million citicens lives in a city with 3 houses...

what are you talking about? with n-space compression, each of those houses can hold 1 million.
but i like the city view, but i don't really pay that much attention to it.

The city view gives you the impression that your city have max 1000 inhabitants, when it in "reality" have a couple of millions.

I've only ever looked at it once.
If they improved it I would proabably look at it one more time.
It's kinda pointless.

Before Civ3 was released I read (I believe on this board, not sure) that a lot of people were happy that the city view was in the game, but from what it sounds like now, most people think the city view is even more useless as it was in Civ2, which I thought was impossible...until I saw the city view in Civ3...

It's just graphical fluff ... just like the Palace building screen.
I have no problem with it being in the game - it's fine - but I would have no problem if they removed it either.

It's strictly eye-candy, so there's no point in worrying about it. I haven't looked at mine for months now. I'd even turn off the Palace view if I could.

It may have been more effective if the city view was in a window which appears at the completion of a building and the building is shown going from under construction to being built (animated quickly!). Of course this should be an option.

Couldn't agree more. I wish they had skipped the "city view" altogether" and focused whatever energy it took on something more useful to the game experience.
As for colonies, I finally use them! I've flagged tundra, desert and jungle as unable to build cities, and in my current game the AI and I are both relying heavily on colonies thanks to some rather large desert and tundra areas. And the jungles ensure that there are undeveloped areas well into the industrial period. Pretty cool. My only complaint is that forested tundra allows cities to be built. Grrrrrrrrrrr.... Maybe I'll flag forest as well for the next go round.

Like they had in Civ1? I liked that, but it should be optional, otherwise this board will be flooded of complains...

1. the city view is not important. who cares.
2. eventhough it's not important, I WOULD actually like to watch at it is it would make sence
civ1 indeed reflected your actual city-size. civ2 didn't (it sucked big time) and neither does civ3, eventhough the civ3 one looks great. But hey, there are a few people living in those skyscrapers near the lake, but that's it.
THERE NEED TO BE MORE SKYSCRAPERS
But I prefer it if you guys would work on the trade screen more though. (I mean the F3 one)
