Forced Victory Conditions Game #1
New SMACX PBEM: Forced Victory Conditions
Modified from Googlie's original idea.
3 player forced victory smacx game, where each player has 2 factions under control.
UofP and Cyborgs = transcendence
Gaians and Cult = green conquest (use mainly worms and fungus)
combo of believers, spartans, hive or pirates = military conquest
morgan and pks = econ for morgan or supreme leader for lal
Map settings:
Large Random map
Erosion, Native Life, Clouds and oceans = average
Game settings:
Forced Victory conditions as mentioned above, no co-op victory between human players
Look First: On
Tech Stag: Off
Spoils of War: Off
Intense Rivalry: Off
Directed Research (pick your own techs)
No Unity Survey (map not visible)
Pods are scattered
No Random Events
Time Warp: Off
Iron Man: Off (allows players to save in middle of turn and return to game if something comes up)
Rules:
Communications - None until in-game contact, obtain commlink, or build EG (Contact between your own 2 factions is fine.)
SE switch "quickies" forbidden - (obviously you can experiment to see what effect various SE choices have, but cannot change, play moves, then change back in the same turn)
Council notification - immediate broadcast to all players (Post in the thread and e-mail to all immediately by player who has called elections, citing candidates and votes. After each player's turn, post in the thread the running totals)
Stockpiling Energy in your build queues is OK.
Crawlers Upgrade anytime - OK
Probe actions: Must choose vendetta option when probing other players, unless you have previously gained permission to probe by e-mail.
You cannot bribe the AI on council votes nor to demand withdrawal of units.
Cannot use the right click feature for multiple drop moves to extend range (ie limited to 8 tiles unless owning the Space Elevator SP)
Cannot use the 'set waypoint' feature for automatic worm hunting/lifecycle enhancements
Must 'Accept' or 'Decline' an offered Pact or Treaty that the other player has indicated 'Accepted' before exiting the diplo box and playing the turn (i.e. no accepting pending treaties/pacts *after* declaring vendetta in the same turn )
Cannot use the F4 feature (or the bases feature of the F2 screen) to change an infiltrated faction's workers to specialists.
You cannot trade bases with the AI. It is okay to gift a base to the AI.
Game #1 is:
SMH = UofPCyborgs callistosdarkside@rogers.com
Flameflash = MorganPKs flameflash@mac.com
shadowlord3 = GaiansCult dmshadowlord3@yahoo.com
Any problems contact me: jcrocombe@aardvark.net.au

I dont care what rules we play bye. I would like the same rules for all 3 games so that there is no confusion.

we changed it to allow stockpiling in the queue for game 3, so maybe we should change it for all of them, from now on.
BTW, I suggest finding a replacement for Gaius Marius, as I still have yet to recieve the turn, and he really hasn't posted anything in the original thread.

Flameflash is taking over from Gaius Marius and has been sent the first turn.
Good luck to all.

"There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into the drive \Device\Harddisk\DR1."
This is the message I get when I try to play the turn. I have tried with and without the disk. Any suggestions?

odd... I can try resending and replaying the turn, but it sounds more like it's something on your end... when was the last time you were able to use that program?

I have already played 2 other turns. One before and one after with no problems. I will try again when I get home on another computer and see if I have the same problem.

so strange... I'll try resending it (and replaying it, so please excuse the reload message) when I get home from work as well... of course, be sure to let us know here if you get it fixed prior to me getting it resent so we can stay with the original.
Or should I just try and re-zip the file when I get home too?
Way too many options for resending...

Odd, i've played turns from people who save on their desktops too, and i usually have to browse to get back to the default save directory, but i never got the disk error from that.
Shadow, did you accidently load SMAC, rather than SMACX? I do that a lot myself.

I loaded both. Loaded smacx first and got the error message, didnt bother to look at it beacuase I play in several smac games and I constantly load smcax by accident. When it didnt work for smac I took a minute or two to think it through. This has to be a smacx game so I loaded smacx again and again a terran.exe error "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into the drive \Device\Harddisk\DR1." I have seen several terran.exe messages before but have not seen \harddisk\dr1 before.

and it continues to be rather odd... I'll try resending (and replaying) when I get home if you're still having problems by then... that way, at least, we'll see if it was on my end or not.
I'll try a couple of different combinations of things, actually...

odd indeed. try saving the game to the default smac save directory.
the game file remembers from where the save last took place.

Even with a Mac?
This is the first cross-platform game that's ever screwed up for me that I've played in. Every other one has worked perfectly (minus when somebody edited something on their program on their end so they get the standard Windows open dialogue rather than the in-game one.)

you're using a mac?
well, since it's the first one that's messed up, that's odd.
shadow, is this before or after you enter your password?
does the error pop up right away after you try to load the file?

Yeah... I've always used a Mac here. Never had a problem with CtP nor SMAC/SMAX once I got all the proper patches, etc.

Before the password. It pops up right away and the only thing I can do is ctrl/alt/del end task. My computer at home will be a good test. If it doesnt work at home than Flame will need to try a few things on his end. If it works at home than it has to be the crack.exe that I'm using at work.

Good news is that I was able to open the save file and play both turns. I guess I wont be playing from work until I can figure out what the problem is. However I'm going to hold onto the turn for now because I have a question. I do not have any starting techs for either faction Gaians or Cult. I know the Cult should have Cent Eco and Soc Pysch and I believe the Gaians should have cent eco. Can we get H0bbes to add the starting techs and restart the game.

Sorry about that. I have written myself a little checklist to make sure I don't forget any steps in the future. New turn has been resent to Flameflash.
Turn order is Flameflash to Shadowlord3 to SMH.
Same passwords as the first turn.
Hope everything is OK now.
