I think this hits it on the head. Tech catch-up is very hard. Instead of the 30% science I think I'll have to move the slider up to 40 or 50% on a regular game. It also makes the militarist (early rush) civs less useful for me.

So true. I never used the all tax mode either.

Other's have mentioned this elsewhere, the AI is building paratroops (why I dont know). I didnt see a paradrop though. I did see American bombers and F16 being used from a carrier.
I think Soren made more "tweaks" to 1.29 than were mentioned.

I'm a fan of Civ III's marines, and early in my Civ III playing days I tried a variety of mods in an effort to stimulate the AI to attack amphibiously using marines from a transport. I never could stimulate AI use of marines (other than ground forces in place of tanks). IN 50+ games I never saw an amphibious assualt.
In my last two 1.29f games (one on Emperor and one on Monarch) I have seen something like 6 amphibious assaults! A very pleasant change (assuming it was changed in 1.29f, which I personally assume).

I just saw my first AI attemted apmhib evr. I just switched to 129f. I like to run through all of the levels with each patch as if it was a new game.
