Zkrib: Stick with the barb. Really. Unless you're a real hardcore player, it will be much easier on you - magic users are puny 'till very late in the game.
And as for that... friend... of ours, there's a special trick that'll take hime down. I could PM you if you want it, so as to avoid spoilers for others. I think you're hurrying to much as well - my character (a Paladin, btw, so even weaker than your half-orc barb) was level nine when I hit that spot in the game. Side quests are fun for exp and profit, you know!

Anyway: any powerplayers out there? I'd like to know if anyone has a better idea for a multiclassed tank than my current MP character: human, 3 rouge, 3 paladin and 14 fighter. I find this guy an utter destreuction machine, even against item cheaters.

I assumed so too, until this latest wrinkle. My wizard has a black panther familiar, plus a conjured dire boar and a cleric hench[wo]man. That gives him a great offensive line to hide behind while he blasts away with his frost rod. He's doing much better than my barbarian did.

Tempting, tempting...but maybe later.

I think you're right, I was either hurrying or maybe it was just lazy incompetence. My barbarian inadvertently completed all the tasks for Olivia but never ran across her in order to cash in. (I was looking in the wrong District.) Neither could he find the priest's brother in the Beggar's Nest. Yo ho, my wizard has already found both.
Hmm, maybe I should go back & play more with my barbarian. I think I saved the game at a point before the ceremony. He's just a few hundred xp's away from the next level, at which point he'll be able to use the magical two-bladed sword the guy in the forge made for him.

Well, that is a given for a mage - they have to use somebody else to front or their story will be over before they can say frost bolt. But my personal experience is that given the rather inept hench/familiar/summon AI, a no-holds-barred tank is still easier to play. Of course, with my sorcerer, I keep the pixie familiar since she's just so handy with the traps and chests, and go much more on the offensive myself, but then again sorcerers are better at direct damage than wizards. A high level sorc/wiz is fearfully effective against anything the AI will throw at you - with one possible exception, that I will refrain from spoiling here.

Well, the Neverwinter SP campaign ain't LOTR, but I found most of the side quests jolly good fun. Some where downright... wierd. Miss out on the chapter 2 sidequests at your own peril.

Yes, the special weapons will make a great difference. I went for the souped-up greatsword myself, and I really liked it. But a barb wielding a two-blade? That just ain't right you know Where's your greataxe?

The great axe is for the big bad guys. The magical two-bladed sword is for lots of little bad guys.

I'm assuming, since this hasn't been posted in in months that I can ask what the secret is, I think it was killing all the creatures doing the ritual first.
 ACK!

And it's not good if he summons the nasty big Skeleton thing. At least, not as a sorc with a pixie familiar.

why won't the game run darkcloud? Is it a video problem? It doesn't support old cards if that is what you are talking about.
I still play multiplayer games- really the only way to play this game. Just got done playing a scheduled game recently. If you are looking for other players try this:

It might be a video problem because I ceratilny am having video problems with the mouse pointer disappearing when over black surfaces- but I bought my comptuer in June/July 2002 and that shouldn't be my problem ???
The thing is... it seems to be missing some files since the map editor crashes... the game is fine... but the map editor crashes and keeps telling me that the files are corrupted... IT just does this randomly- I cannot edit for mroe than 10 minutes... and when I reopen the files they will be corrupted, allegedly missing a "header" file, I think... so I looked in the "troubleshooting test" and found that a file was missing... so I uninstalled- then reinstalled FULL INSTALL... and it seemed to fix that file- but I still had teh crash problems
oh well

Maybe I'll try that , But I only bought the game so that I could design my own dungeons. I hated how the game played. I prefer isometeric "Baldurs Gate" games.

I have never been dissapointed with a game by bioware but the singleplayer in neverwinter just does not do it for me.... Maybe im comparing it to much to the BG-series, it's something with the environments always looking the same and the sound being strange (what the hell are those moans and cries that keep repeating themselves, did someone leave a record on repeat in the dungeon or something?), it just puts me off playing anymore.
