A question about 2 threads/day
The FAQ says:
Quote:
|
2) You can only start 2 threads per day
|
How is that defined? Calendar day? What time zone? 24 hours since first of the two threads?
Yes, I could search for the answer...but it should be in the FAQ.

What does it matter? Though I wish red_jon's most recent thread wasn't closed (I was just about to post in it) but there are already too many spamish threads in the OT forum.

Why close the one actual useful, interesting thread in the OT? There were 3 threads he started, why not get rid of one of the other two?
Unless he keeps it going in Your Political Views.

Who am I to judge which is the most usefull (actually, if I did, somebody would argue the point)
So I just close the last one started. It's simple, easy, and there can be no argument on the validity of one thread vs another.
I usually view it as a 24 hour window. I've had people say that "I started one of those yesterday local time", and as long as it isn't a repeat offender, I let it slide.

Fair enough. And as he has continued the graphing in the thread I linked to above, I'm happy.
Which is clearly what is important here.

I wonder why the rule can't be enforced automaticly....
If you can prohibit that users post 2 times within 30 seconds, why is it impossible to prohibit them to post 3 times within 24 hours.......
that would take away all the complains about 'just the one and only interesting thread has been closed' because the thread never was there......!

Thanks, Ming.
If this is the same for the rest of the OT mods, could someone put that in the FAQ?

While MarkG or DanQ are the best people to answer that question...
It was automatic with the old software. I think they had added a hack to do it. To the best of my knowledge, it is not a standard feature of the new forum software being used.

Nahhh... MarkG answered my question. I "think" his response was that it wasn't a standard feature... but that was a ways back, and my memory sometimes is a little fuzzy

Nah, we give him credit because he is fair. We may not like all his decisions, but never-the-less they are generally fair.

I don't know where you are coming from but calling somebody a Nzi is about the worst form of insulting somebody! So if you do not like the mods or owners of this site I suggest you abstain and move on to some other site that may be suitable to your taste!
So long...

While that may be true, I'm always a little peeved when people toss the phrase "forum Nazis" around so casually. I can usually bet that they are young and don't understand just how insulting it is. Or even worse, they do and use it anyway.

I would like to question - why does this rule (3 threads per day) exists at all? It is not good rule in my opinion... Here's why:
I, myself and I believe most of people here on Apolyton, don't post threads just to post. My post per day rating is quite low and I am ussually posting threads not faster than 1 per 2 days. But, however, it could happen so that I'd need to more than that. For example, if something big would happen here or anywhere else and I would like to discuss news. It is really bad that such rule could make me spammer just because I created 3 threads (assuming if they are all worthvile and clever). I think such a rule is outdated and was only worthvile in times when post number in OT was being counted. Now, when it is not counted, all those who want bigger post count won't post many threads just to post here. I think one of worthvile threads shouldn't be deleted/locked just because it is the third. However, if thread is a spam, then it should be deleted. If user has something to say then let him, but if he just spams then it is easily recognisable.

Sonic, we've been through this discussion a million times before, but the admins just want it to be this way.

Sonic,
I would be willing to bet that if you were a frequent poster that didn't start many threads and one day you started three really good threads, no one would notice or if they did, might even turn the other way. (even though I'm sure someone would post a thread about it in this forum to demonstrate double standards being applied by the mods, which we would quickly deny ever having seen three threads )
Unfortunately that's usually not the case. There are a few people here, (without naming any names) that would create 4-10 sub par threads a day if it wasn't against the rules. That leads to clutter and distracts from serious discussions in the OT. (I can't believe I just used serious and OT in the same sentence)
RAH

I just again come to thinking how many of my 4.5 thousand posts were new threads... I think I got like 100 threads started, no more, and everything else as a reply .

How is the rule enforced.
Is there a pop-up "We have code red in the OT - Spinks again" warning that tells mods when someone has violated the rule.
Or is it done by just noticing too many threads in the forum?

NAW, we just check out the front page of the OT and count how many threads were originated by Stewie. Then verify which ones are old boring ones that he bumped, and how many are from today. (two is required) then close the more boring of the two. Which is sometimes tough because they're both so bad.
And that's the drill
