I greatly appreciate being nominated and seconded for a post on this committee, thank you Togas, Vlad , GK. However, I am torn....part of me says this will be time consuming and I don't really have much free time to spare. The other part of me says, I like doing this kind of stuff and, given that I was against such a committee being formed, joining it will allow me some type of control on the process.
But, its not fair to join something and not give it the time it warrants, and possibly take a position from someone who can provide the time. So I will have to decline.
Please, to those who do end up on the committee....do not throw the baby out with the bath water. That is, those items that work currently in the CoL should be left as is and not changed. Also, remember that everything in the current CoL was approved by a 2/3's vote.
There is no reason to destroy what has taken hours and hours to create, simply in the name of reform. The most successful revolutions, if you will, were not so much revolutions but variations on what was there to begin with.
Finally, simplicity, clarity, readability...should always be in your minds as you take this task on...let not your position rule your common sense. And, most of all, remember what you write must stand the test of time, it must adapt as the game proceeds and it must be dynamic, not static. This shirt of democracy, needs to be "one size fits all".
Having said that, I have my full faith in those parties who have been nominated, and know they will do their best.

Apocalypse, one word. Family.
Regrettable jd. I really think someone from the court should be there, and I'm not convinced I'm the best candidate.
If I go on to the committee, I will keep your wishes in mind. I agree with many of them. I may also solicit your opinion in these matters as well as those of other justices if that is allowed (I can't see why it wouldn't be).

Apoc and family. That sounds funny. Those words don't really go together well.

The lack of sleep I'm used to, but more importantly football season is bearing down, and I've got a fantasy football team to manage. I lose my whole Sunday and Monday Night, keeping my players in line. We've got to regain the Championship, after a break down in the running game last year (Damn that Eddie George!). Marshall Faulk will rue the day he left Da Crushas for free agency.
Oh, yeah, and there's the family thing, too.
Plus, this convention needs nye, he's its driving force.
I am always available for consultation, of course, just PM me....that is assuming they stop starving my people in Here It Is (formerly Paris). Let my people go!
Anyway, good luck!

Sounds like my plans once my term is over!
We already held the draft, though. I somehow wound up with Shaun Alexander, Corey Dillon, and Preist Holmes as I sat and watched everyone else draft QB's and Recievers in the first two rounds...
Ah, jd. Wish you lived by me...I just bought the NFL ticket, and am having parties most every Sunday.

Entirely Off Topic
Don't expect too much Civ from me on Sundays or Monday nights. I'm in two different FF Leagues this year, just had the draft last weekend. I'm of the same mindset as Unortho -- while everyone else started picking QBs and WRs in rounds 2-3, I grabbed Ahman Greeen, LaDanian Tomlinson, and Priest Holmes.

heh, who did you end up with as QB? I am gambling on Drew Bledsoe. I already picked up Eric Moulds, and figured I'ld gamble at doubling the production with his QB as well.
And NYE, I have full confidence in you. If someone hasn't I second youre nomination.(gotta keep this SOMEWHAT on topic...)

jdjdjd,
If you want a slot, I'd be happy to step aside and let you have it... I'll be able to make time for this, but if there's any qualified canidate who wants it and already has time floating around (anyone who has more than twenty four hours in their day must do it as compensation for the rest of us ), I'd be willing to go back and drop myself out... In other words, no one should be saying "I'd like to do it, but don't want to mess up the four people who have accepted..." if there's anyone else who's been nominated and seconded and who wants it, speek up, and I'd be willing to step aside.
On a totally unrelated note, I think GePap said he was leaving yesterday until Aug. 9th on the Foreign Ministry office thread... if so, we probably won't expect a response from him.

adaMada, no I really won't have the time to get into this task, thanks though. But again, I would gladly provide any other help you all needed. My problem is blocking off set time to go to a chat and discuss these ideas.
Now Off Topic:
Togas & UnOrtho...looks like we all have Priest Holmes. I usually like to grab backs early, but I took a different approach than I usually do (thanks to the aforementioned Mr. George, who sank me last year) since I had #9 pick out of 12 teams, and thought I could get some bargains later at RB...I took Culpepper, then Holmes and Moulds. And I decided to gamble with possible sleepers, TJ Ducket, Clinton Portis & Brian Westbrook as my no. 2 RB.
Of course all leagues are differnet, but in ours QB gets full 6 for a TD pass instead of 3 pts, as in some leagues. Also, 50 yd TD & over is double the money, yardage bonuses don't kick in till 250(pass) & 75(run & recv), & reception bonuses start at 8...so thats why I went those three in first rounds.
EDIT
Perhaps we could create some kind of a gentleman's league....not for cash, since we have no way of knowing exactly who we are, but for bragging rights. We could do the draft next week, PM each other our picks, in order...keep it simple, maybe just a starting line up.....hmmmm, have to think about that more.
Anyone interested PM me.

Hell, round up enough people, and we can start a league on CBS Sportsline for free. Just do one of the free ones. Need 12 people for that, though.
Hmm, sportsbooking...a new extention of the Gazette?
Or, we could keep it REAL simple like my office pool. 1 QB, 5 position players (WR, RB, don't matter), 1 Kicker, 1 Defense/ST.
Only score actual points to keep it easy...TD's, Feild Goals...Easy to track, easy to draft...

Mostly Off Topic
I feel horrible about posting this here, so this should be my last off-topic post in this thread. We should PM from here on out.
I grabbed Bledsoe later in the draft (after getting Boston), and I'm pretty confident in him.
I'm in two leagues -- One is a 12 team CBSsportsline $140 deluxe league that drafted weeks ago. The other is a fun 8 team free Yahoo league that drafted last weekend. The latter is where I got the better team.
If we start something Yahoo is very easy to manage, but I don't mind another site so long as it's free and more for bragging rights. I focus most of my attention on my Sportline league.
ON TOPIC
When would the long job of rewriting begin? I'm good to go next week but the week after I'll be on vacation.

i dont know if this is the right place but you all might want to check the DGsmac constitution I think it is very simple and good (but that is probably because i created it )
but still just a idea!

You're right. Simple. To the point. Efficient. Very similar to ours in structure, just easier to understand. You did a good job with it.
I'm sure there will be some amongst the Convention who want to do something very similar, and others who want a total rewrite. I'm still undecided.

I'm for a simple constitution as possible (though one that still addresses all the issues). We don't want this problem to go on for longer than it needs to.

OPD, is that an acceptance?
I think I'll count it as an acceptance until you say otherwise.
If more than 4 people are nominated prior to the end of 7 days, then all nominees will stand for public selection in a multiple choice poll. Those 4 nominees with the highest number of votes for them will form the select committee. In the event of a tie for a given total, the nominee(s) who accepted their nomination(s) at the earlier date and time will be deemed to have won and will go on to the select committee. Should one be required, the poll to determine the members of the select committee will last 7 days.

Togas,
If a poll is necessary, it will commence 2 Sept and run till the 8th. Don't worry about a holiday. 1 week here or there will not alter the course of history too much.
You could also write your initial thoughts down and entrust them to someone you feel is reliable for that person to relay to the other 3 people on the committee.
From experience, most of the first week will most likely be spent with the committee sorting itself out and the members reviewing material... if it's anything like the court.

GK thats easy for you to say you won't have to look him in the eyes and see how passive and downbeat he becomes.
NYE No thats not an acceptance
This is an acceptance
After reading through all the threads carefully I accept the nomination as I think that among other things the regions issue may be important and as I have had experience of the current system I think that I would have some good imput to the discussion aswell as other issues.

Are there no other qualified candidates, or are we happy to choose from the 5 already active?

Assuming that GePap is still away (I think he is per http://www.apolyton.net/forums/showt...21#post1247994), we have no unanswered nominations. If anyone else wants to nominate someone else, they should do it fast, so there's time for it to be seconded/accepted or not.
Just a small informational post.
