An old foggie asks the new slicks...
I've been gone for quite a long time, lurking here and there, and I've noticed a new forum here...
What exactly is behind the concept of a "Democracy Game"? I know the concept of a succession game and PBEM game...but what's up with the democracy game? Do a bunch of players decide what the units/cities do? Who plays the game? Is there a thread with the concept?

The president plays the game according to what the ministers tell him the citizens want. The ministers all post polls about key events - where to settle, where to explore, what to research, etc - poll results are to be carried out by the president. All ministers are elected, terms are one month. Usually, this has meant 4 or 5 game sessions each month.
It's a fun way to play! Because consensus must be found, there is no autocratic decision about how to play the game. Strategy changes as the game goes on. It works rather well, tho currently there is talk of impeachment...

Yes the president will play a few turns , early in the game it might be 10-15 while later on it might only be 2 or 3 turns. He then sends a copy of the save to the ministers who poll public opinion and inform the president of the results.

I see...so then each minister adminsters each aspect that they're in control of or do they play out the whole turn?

each minister advises the president on what to change from turn to turn. the city planner tells the president what rome should be building and which square each worker should be using. the worker part is only if the city planner is a perfectionist though.
as the combined science trade minister right now, i tell the president that he shold research monarchy, and as the trade minister i complain that i have nothing to do since we haven't even discovered currency yet

And they're not complete idiots this time.
Follow an AI advisor's suggestions, you'll scrape by. Follow a human advisor's suggestion, you'll win a crushing victory. (Usually.)

The Civ2 game was first (started Jan/Feb, finished in July). We recently started our 2nd game.
The others (Civ3, AC) are in their 1st games.
The concept was brought here from civfanatics IIRC.

We're starting one pretty soon.
And the avatar is Domo-kun. I can't really explain it, except... http://www.fark.com -- check the photoshop contests. Domo-kun is one of the more popular cliches in Photoshop contests (Admiral Ackbar is another).
